Check,

Don't forget your airline history.

Overheard Late one night in the DAL Executive dining facility.

DAL Management Suit 1: “Hey Fullworth, I have a great idea. Lets sucker the Pilots into making another SCOPE concession with a 25% pay-raise!”

DAL Management Suit 2: “I don’t know Chadwick, 25% is a lot of money – think of the stockholders, and ummm I mean, well you know, a payroll increase will negatively affect our bonuses.”

DAL Management Suit 3: “Yes, Thorton is right – that’s too much money. And besides, our long term plan to outsource all domestic narrow-body flying is working exquisitely. Let’s not get too greedy.”

DAL Management Suit 1: “You buffoon – we were hired to be greedy, and the brilliance of my plan is that it will hardly cost anything.”

DAL Management Suit 3: “How so?”

DAL Management Suit 1: “We give them a 25% raise, we get the SCOPE concessions that we need and then we take back the 25% raise – I am a genius or what!”

DAL Management Suit 2: “Fullworth that’s not possible – won’t we have a contractual agreement with the pilots?”

DAL Management Suit 1: [Laughing his A$$ off] “Contractual agreement – that’s rich! Boy are you guys fresh off the bus off what – I thought we only hired Ivy league here, Oh yeah, that’s right I forget you boys went to school in Florida. We give them the 25% raise and then in a few months take it away under pretext of some emergency – you know earthquake, volcano, war, oil spill, pandemic, economic collapse or whatever. Disasters in the Airline business are a dime a dozen. The French even have some fancy word for the whole process– but the important thing is, the pay-raise is history but the SCOPE agreement lives on. Hell if I remember correctly they taught us that in Airline management 101 – the ole’ bait and switch.”

DAL Management Suit 3: “Fullworth you are the man! The next Brandy is on me.”

MORAL OF THE STORY – He who sells SCOPE Protection for pay-rates will eventually have neither.

Not even for a 1000% raise. What good is it if the raise doesn't apply to you? And without Scope, nothing applies to you. No Scope=no future.

Rode on the bus in LAX with a fNW crew last night. I was quite comforted in the fact that the word "scope" was used a good 20 times in the bus ride by both the CA I'm flying with and the fNW CA.

edit- Also flew with a fNW group of FA's. They were wonderful! (from MSP, dontcha know!) Very considerate and professional, and had also never been on a 737... I'm not sure if they ever figured out the entertainment system. Had to send an acars to dispatch to copy and paste the thing on where to put in the lead's employee number. Now I've got it printed out in my flight kit for future times.

I flew with some FNWA FA's once, and they were great. Young too. So far, they're batting 100% in my book.

Happy July 4th!!! Actually got the fireworks out of the way on the 3rd, thats the best way to go. Its less crowded, you're closer and its just plain fun.

ATL MD88 B, 8 days on, 1 day trip from SC, the rest of it was all LC and so far nothing for the 4th. Crazy.

The sad thing is there are a lot of pilots at Delta with Check Essential's attitude. There are a lot of pilots at Delta that are oblivious to what's going on around them. They go to work, collect a paycheck, and go home. If Delta offers them a paycheck that's 25 percent bigger, they will vote yes and not even worry about why they are receiving a 25 percent increase in pay. Pilots like ACL, Super, Johnso, and myself pay attention to everything because we are stuck here for the next 30+ years.

BTW, if you ever hear of an MD88 FO in ATL owns a DHC-2 Beaver on wheels then you know, FTB won the lottery. Thats my new lottery plane, replaces the Bonanza.

YouTube - Very short ground roll and airbore! Dehavilland DHC-2 Beaver

It is more than that. I have watched what has happened since 1990 on every scope sale or section one change. We have never recaptured any section one concessions in SJS.

You are correct though. I care deeply for this group and this airline. We need to watch out for this place because we will be here long after Ferd is laughing at us from Godfather's. :D

Lucky Ferd!!! :p

We do have a long time to go, but I think a lot of guys have realized how bad not bringing the 50 seater to mainline has hurt this career. It's damage is forever done, and that wound was torn open even more by BK. I think everyone is ready to let the wound heal, and keep more jobs from being lost regardless of the $$ offered.

Fool us once shame on you.........everyone knows the rest.
