If the LLC guys don't get their stuff together once and for all, I can see RJET buying the West and the East sold to the highest bidder.

That SLI will be fun to watch.

It will be pretty simple... staple.

If this DPA intends to bring back some of the leadership from those days ... lets stick with what we've got thank you.

i didn't know dpa was buying and merging airlines?

just to make this clear, some of us don't like alpa national but that does not mean we're anti-dalpa.

Look at LUV's presence in SLC. DAL is doing a very good job there proving that they have long since learned how to deal with the "Red Bellied War Birds."

MSP is another good example.

UAUA let them come in because they were too busy looking that their own feet.

This is true and even though this initially looks like a bad thing for DAL in Atlanta its not as bad as it initially appears. SWA has some of the lowest costs in the industry because they have less debt. SWA buying Airtran, adding debt and 40% higher wages (I realize wages are only a small part of total costs) will even the playing field somewhat.

I think we will do just fine against a SWA that may get a little bloated as they digest another carrier. One thing is for certain, the more consolidation the more pricing power over the long term. Hopefully this translates into higher pilot wages along the way.

i suspect if the wdr pushback results in mass delays on the ramp then it will be shelved and brought back to ramps 3 and 4 only one swa and aai merge. :D

I'm seeing some silver lining in all of this on a couple of fronts.

Don't make me do it. So T, go get Carl, SWA is coming to town.

I wonder if we can force them to give up terminal C to make the merger go through.

The gubbamint will never force SWA to give up ANYTHING... remember.. they are THE low fare airline. When I heard this announcement this morning, even the CNBC talking heads refer to them as a "discount" airline. The con job is amazing....

It seems like we've held our our against Southwest in SLC. I don't see Atlanta being much different. If anything, we're in better shape vs. them in ATL, given the number of international pax we have.

Overall, consolidation is good for the entire industry.

It does, but AMR also needs another operator with an international presence. LLC comes to mind for the Atlantic, and MKS for SA.

If AMR does beat out DAL for AS, DAL will either have to buy Virgin to compete out there or buy a ton of jets. We need to feed our flights.

So, as I see it we get AS or AMR gets AS and we are forced in to buying B6 and putting half of their jets out west to feed our Asia flights, or we buy Virgin America and let them feed our Asia flights.

My bet is on that DAL has a case for the "need' to buy AS since they feed more flying for us that AMR. If we win that, AMR will need to buy NKS, and LLC. Virgin will cease to exist.

What we are seeing is what should have happened after Deregulation. Large carriers with broad scope. What we are seeing now is in the long run very good for the airlines and their pilots. We will be able to easily kill upstarts because we have the versatility of our fleets and route networks to move assets and truly drive them out of business.

An interesting day all around.

Domino two.

I agree. These acquisitions/mergers are very good for us. The industry has outgrown itself, & this is how we get it back under control. Things are getting really interesting IMO. Who's next? :D

BTW, this may seal RJETs fate. They've been bleeding cash, & AT was already expanding in MKE. All that will be left for RJET is DIA, & SWA is already taking a bigger piece of the pie every year. If UAL/CAL gets efficient fast, it could get ugly for RAH.

Con job is right! They become less & less of a discount airline every day. I sat next to a guy the other day who took DAL non stop to DTW because it was CHEAPER then SWA. Less and less direct flights as time goes on.

On many markets where DAL and SWA compete, DAL is by far a better deal. The marketing plan of "THE low fare airline" was brilliant. That and the fact that you have to go to SWA's website to purchase tickets plays right at the laziness of most people when it comes to buying things. Everybody wants one stop shopping. THE low fare airline coupled with the only place to buy their tickets is a great plan. Too bad people are so gullible.
