I think there is alot of that going on. If you show up in uniform or as a non-rev you get treated completely different than you do if you buy a ticket. I used to get treated like crap by the CAL agents when I worked at XJT, now when I show up in a Delta uniform they are very pleasant.

The biggest problem we have with our agents is they are overworked. Maybe better IT would allow them to do stuff more efficiently, but if we had more of them they would be alot better. I think 90% of the agents would be just as great as the SWA agents if they weren't overtasked and threatned with disicipline if they didn't complete their tasks. The FA's are a different story.

I saw a Kalitta 747-200 smoking off of that runway once too. They did not rotate in the first half of the runway. :) They had all the mains off by the first half of the piano stripes though.

The tower guys came into my EWR recurrent once to have a chat and talk about stuff as they see it. They said that every time a Kalitta 747 lands there is a guy who will watch them and only them until they get to where they're supposed to be. I guess they've had issues.

so tonight I tried to commute home on a full ASA flight but i tried anyway. I walked up to the gate an hour prior and said i'm listed but can do the jumpseat if needed. The agent says oh dont worry you have a seat, i think great and wait around to go time. Just as boarding starts they pull my seat and the guy says sign up for the jumpseat and we'll get you on. So i go to the agent and checkin for the jumpseat. Just before boarding some Pinchanickle guy rolls up and says oh i'm already on the jumpseat, I booked it 6 hours ago. Is there a limit on how early you can book a jumpseat? I always thought it was 1 hour prior with the agent at the gate? Even if theres no time limit is there a pecking order for who gets the jumpseat if its neither of our companies metal or is it first come? I feel like i got major hosed on this one. Whats the rules? 6 hours prior doesnt sound right imho but i've never had this happen either.

The blows Super. Just blows.

I'm going to use some reverse pscyhology on the PBS system for November. I'm going to ask to fly Thanksgiving AND weekends. I've heard it works. I don't want to be the guy not sharing the secrets of PBS so if someone senior to me on the 88 wants to try it, go ahead.

yeah apparently he thinks its acceptable to book a jumpseat before his last turn then come running up right at departure time completely disregarding procedures. I filed a JSAP with the committee, unfortunately it wont help me get home tonight but hopefully they can put a stop to this because i'm finding out from others this is a common theme lately.

It has been happening for a long time. When I commuted from IAH to ATL I had a few guys try and pull the same thing. The one hour thing is hard for some to get a grasp on for some reason. They don't understand that it doesn't matter if you fill out your form three hours prior or six days prior, it is the first person who shows up and talks to the agent when they show up to work the flight which should be one hour prior. There should never be a time on that form that is farther out than one hour prior because that doesn't matter.

The confusing thing is what happens when there are two of you that show up right at one hour prior...who gets the seat then? I always thought it was the first in line to talk to the agent. Then one day I was the first in line and got up to the agent only to find out the guy behind me had filled out a form and left it on her keyboard 20 minutes earlier. She saw it when she walked up and figured he was the first one there one hour prior. So now I fill out a form and leave it on the keyboard.

Qualification Training Pay

Section 11 - Training
B. Pay and Credit
1. Qualification Training
b. A reserve pilot or an unassigned pilot, while assigned to qualification training, will be paid and credited a pro rata portion of the ALV for each training day, including training days on which his schedule shows “OFF” (not scheduled to attend training), at the rate of the highest paying aircraft model shown on his line or if he has not flown during the bid period, the rate used to establish his reserve guarantee or unassigned pilot guarantee (see Section 4)

I should be coming off long term MLOA to a different category than when I left. I understand the above to mean that QT pay for a Reserve pilot will be reserve pay at the guarantee (70 hours). Or is it "pro rata portion (1/30th or 1/31st) of the ALV?" Either of those scenarios are good but what if I don't start training until a month after I return to the company (320B)?

I can't wait to come back, I just don't want to take it in the shorts...

I was following what i thought was the rules and this guy walked up just before closeout with a jumpseat form that was timed 6 hours prior. the agent said sorry he beat you here since it was before you got here an hour prior. So he wasnt there an hour prior, he got a bogus checkin 6 hours prior and strolled up 2 minutes before departure. I had nothing to stand on because i didnt have the above info. I'll be sure to carry it from now on though.

Sucks, bossman. I too was unaware you could "book" a jumpseat. Seems after reading these last few posts, that you can't, which benefits commuters everywhere. First come, first served was the rule I always played by, and will continue to.

Nice thing for you mainline guys, is the ability to reserve one of your own jumpseats. Great peace of mind. Wish we had similar rules on our own metal, but none exist.

AirTran $39 Fare for $44 Reaps Fine as Penalties Rise - BusinessWeek

The Transportation Department’s aviation enforcement office, which oversees advertising, passenger rights and disclosure of data on carrier performance, has levied $4.77 million in penalties since Obama took office, an 84 percent jump from $2.59 million in 2007-2008, according to department data.

Lots of signs that this Administration's DOT has stepped out of line.

If only the federal government was held to the same standards as the airline industry.
