2 year promise to not close any bases as a result of the merger expired last night at midnight. Nobody else had their eye on that date?! Not to be too pessimistic (it is what it is), but awaiting the hammer in CVG. Rumors are now free to fly from the top down.

Well...with MEM, CVG and DTW all in the 'same' geographic area...I could see them closing MEM and CVG, and now that SWA is coming to ATL, I can see them closing ATL and moving everything to DTW!
Nothing would surprise me anymore...

Other than what someone else just posted, I haven't heard anything. Which in Washington-speak, I'm guessing is good news. If the words was filtering down from the DOT that it was going to get canned again, I think you'd see more info from Delta or US Airways asking employees for support, senators saying they were in favor, etc. But, that's just my guess.
...but if I'm carrying credentials for the weapon in my pants. Hmmm... I've got an idea.
I realize that Pilots have inadvertently taking weapons through security.
I agree that this a lapse in professionalism and probably mostly just plain inattention, but really not much more. If these Pilots actually had any ill-intent they would not need to take a weapon through security. Furthermore if they actually had any ill-intent they would probably not try to take their weapon through a metal detector.
I realize that people may pretend to be a pilot to bypass security - this is why we need a foolproof method of identifying actual pilots. We need to focus on identifying people vice objects.

We reply with "Yeah, but...", and the headlines of Stupid Pilot Tricks gets waved in our face. We remind everyone of how we have a crash axe in the cockpit, and how we've got the yoke in our hands, and how we are trusted with hundreds of lives and millions of dollars worth of airplane...
...and they show the mug shots of drunk pilots trying to fly, or blowing holes in the airplane with his gun, or leaving his gun at Sbarro...
...and the critical element of INTENT is lost in the mix.

my profit sharing check might not be as good but I'm a very content dude.
Cute, I have seen the TSA workers screened. I admit that I am not aware of the local procedures at every station, nor do I keep track of where I am when I see them screened, but there are many cities I frequent that have the TSA screeners pass though security upon arriving at work.
