Report: Co-pilot moved seat, sent jetliner plummeting
An Air India Express 737, similar to this one, was saved from crashing when co-pilot used emergency code to get back into the cockpit. The co-pilot of an Air India Express 737 sent the jetliner into a terrifying 7,000-foot plunge in May when he accidentally hit the control column while adjusting his seat, investigators report.
According to the report from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the co-pilot panicked and was unable to execute the proper procedures as the jetliner dropped from 37,000 feet at a 26-degree angle. The plane and its 113 passengers were saved when the pilot, who’d gone on a bathroom break, used an emergency code to get into the locked cockpit, jumped back into his seat and grabbed the controls to bring the plummeting plane out of its dive.
The aircraft would have broken apart if the descent had continued, the aviation agency report said. The aircraft was not damaged and no one was injured, the report said.
After the pilot, 39, regained control of the plane, he told passengers, who were in the middle of a meal when the jet plunged, that the plane had “went through an air pocket and that is why there was a rapid descent,” according to the report.
The aviation agency report concluded that the 25-year-old co-pilot had not been trained in the specific scenario the jet encountered and “probably had no clue to tackle this kind of emergency.”

This is what over controlling a 757 and getting into PIO's look like:

If you find yourself completely out of phase with your control inputs to aircraft movement, you might be doing something wrong... and might end up as the second most viewed picture on airliners.net!

It's that, or NewK was bored on his day off so he flew the 757 for old times sake.

I wonder who's paying for the Wifi installation in the RJs. I could see either Delta paying (and taking most of the revenue) or the operator paying and getting less, because it's Delta's customers.

That's Ferd Landing. The CA bet him he couldn't land on just the left main & then use just the rudder to clear on the high speed, never touching the right main down until he was completing the after landing checklist. I can see Ferd mouthing 'I got it, I got it.' while the CA watches & learns.

The Capt, like most Capts, had been crying like a little girl since the marker

Just another trip, but did you see the last MEC meeting resolutions? All my Capts get green slip pay now, no matter what the trip

Did anyone else get a statement from ALPA about owing dues? Apparently they think I owe them $231.00 even though I've been on dues check off all year. Not sure how that can be. Of course, my ALPA membership services representative isn't answering her phone......
I think this is going to be a rough life, this sitting reserve at home. Don't have to worry about this anymore:
- Due to WEATHER / WIND, departure traffic destined to John F Kennedy International Airport, New York, NY (JFK) is currently experiencing delays averaging 2 hours and 24 minutes.
- Due to WEATHER / WIND, departure traffic destined to La Guardia Airport, New York, NY (LGA) is currently experiencing delays averaging 2 hours and 51 minutes

Ha - I was too busy playing on the Playstation to do that! But it's on my honey-do list.
