Wow. So recovery flying when pulled off for OE is a horrible deal. Who the heck thought of this garbage?

I involuntarily lose my trip, & now I'm back to being a reserve pilot who can be assigned flying that finishes LATER then my originally scheduled rotation. Horrible.

Do I at least get a paid hotel room?

It's actually an awesome deal if you're a line holder. You get paid for the trip and you can pickup something else.

Same guys who thought of the rest of the stuff in section 23.

Not the way I'm reading the contract. What I see is they up to 12 hours prior to my original report time to notify me. That's 1825 ET tomorrow.

So my trip starts on the 3rd, & there are three 4 days & two 3 days in open time for the 3rd. If I'm reading the contract correctly they can just toss one of those trips on my schedule tomorrow.

Is that correct?

Plus I only get paid for my original rotation, yes?

Yes I love free vacations too, but when will DL go to monthly bid awards. It will even out the training pipeline and avoid benching. We did that at NW and it worked great. No big mother of all bids, just a consistent even training pipeline

Actually, I haven't done it in so long I can't recall. Maybe one of the other guys can chime in. I used to do it, get paid for it, and put in a slip. Haven't held a line for quite awhile out here so I may be spitting out bad poop.

They can assign you recovery flying from open time as long as they assign it prior to 12 hours before your originally scheduled report time. If you don't have anything on your schedule by 12 hours prior, then you are under no obligation for recovery flying and you can WS trips and get paid for both your dropped trip and the WS trip. Any recovery trip cannot start earlier than the original trip, but it can end 4 hours later than your original trip. You get no hotel if you get an uncommutable recovery trip.

It can be awesome if there is nothing in open time, but when there are plenty of trips sitting there it usually ends up being a bad deal.

Yes that is correct and you will get paid the value of your original trip or the recovery trip whichever is greater. 23K recovery flying is given out BEFORE they give anything to reserve guys so you will get one of those trips. Put in your preferences for the trips available to get the best of what is there and expect to get the one that has the most flying that fits within the window of what they can give you which sounds like one of the 4-days.

Thanks Rocky.

What's official notification? A phone call?

There are 5 trips open time so I think they'll be giving me one of those.

My other question is if I originally had a 5 day on my line, but am assigned a 4 day, am I still subject to recovery flying on the last day? Do try have to give me 12 hours notice if they tagged a day trip on for Day 5?????

Thanks for your help.

Its only a good deal if they do not assign you recovery flying. It can be a very bad deal. I had a four day commutable trip out of JFK that was dropped for an OE. Scheduling then tried to gave me a 3 day trip not commutable on the back end out of EWR which was legal according to the PWA. I pleaded with him that my flight kit was at JFK and it would be very hard for me to get my kit and then get to EWR without commuting in the night before. Fortunately he was able to give me a 3 day JFK instead.

They can give you a trip that gets in up to 4 hours after your original or by midnight the same day...wichever is later. This is something that needs to be addressed in the next contract.
