Ok, I get it now. I guess see where one could drop through the crack.

When it happened to me, I noticed the guy I was flying with was an LCA when I looked to see who I was flying with. So, I started researching all of this (since it was different than NWA's) Sure enough, the trip "dropped off" my line about a week prior. But, everything else was clockwork. Got the call that I was removed for OE and thus time available at almost exactly 24 hours prior. I commuted up to MSP and just sat in the lounge until 12 hours prior. I checked the computer and saw no trip and that I had dropped off the available list and went home about an hour later.

Yes, a pain to go up and sit around. Yes, a pain that they "couldn't release me" early, ie not commute in (scheduler said she would have if I'd been a reserve, but I wasn't).

I guess the company can build lines that don't meet the off day grouping requirements. PBS will give you 9 days in a row....you can only put 6 in a row yourself. PBS will give you less than three reserve days in a block.....you cannot create a block that is less than three. PBS will give you one day off between blocks....you can't create less than two days off between blocks. PBS will give you more than 5 off day blocks....you cannot move days to create more than 5 off day blocks.

I've noticed the last few months that when PBS builds schedules there are very few ways to move days due to the requirements that THEY violate to build your line. Even with reserves above the minimum you still can't move stuff because of all the off day grouping requirements. It's getting ridiculous. If WE can't do it, then they shouldn't be able to do it either.

 

Question for the PBS gurus: I want to bid reserve to hold weekends off but only if I can get every Sat Sun Mon off. Do I preference those days off and then do "all or nothing" followed by my default bid?

I also had an entire rotation where all I did was dinner and a movie and augment. The other augment F/O and I would trade off use of the bunk. It was 12 days, DH-BOS-AMS-BOM-AMS-PDX-AMS-MEM-DH. It is correct to state that the new F/O is not qualified until his/her line check, usually the last leg. The only way to legally do breaks.

 

Yep. It is not the case on the 7ER or 765 since the way training is set up makes the pilot qualified on the domestic jets prior to TOE.

 

That or an "Else Start Next". That way if you don't get those days off you can bid back to a line if you want.

I have been using one for about 2 years now, they work great! I have the HD version and really like it. You need a really good connection to stream HD though. Also if you have an iPhone there is an application that allows you to watch TV right on your phone (my 6 year old loves this).

Ferd, Unless something has changed there was no need for you to commute to your base. That is the reason for the 12 hours prior to report. They can't assign you replacement flying that leaves before your original report. You could have stayed home and worst case would have had 12 hours to get to your base. You are not even required to acknowledge the report until 3 hours prior to your original report. If however they place a trip on your line 12 hours prior and you don't respond by 3 hours prior then you now have to be in base on essentially short call for 6 hours after your original report.
