But I don't think anyone will try to make a direct replacement because the 757 was knocked out by lesser airplanes such as the 738, 739 and I guess maybe even the A321. I mean to make something that equals the 757 might be a waste of effort if the smaller jets continue to hurt it. Think of all of the "757 routes" done or shared with 737s, MD88s and 90s and 320s now. And the high altitude stuff is taken up by 737-700s and A319s.

Not saying the 757 is going away by any means, just saying since economics guides the decisions and given "shrinking" airplanes rarely works well (as in 787 to 757 size) I think there won't be a replacement as the 757s exit a long time from now. Unless the A321 or 738 replacement are given massive engines.
Dude... really? the 738 or A32X as a 757 replacement?

I sell pilot services to Delta Air Lines, I will fly whatever plane they ask, all I ask is that Delta Air Lines compensates me in correlation with my skill, ability, and responsibilities.
Exactly the kind of attitude that would make sense in a longevity based pay system...

Mo money.. mo time off...

Apparently he and another pax had a very similar bag and accidentally got confused somehow.... why they were still outside of security!

The pax made it THROUGH the TSA checkpoint and onto the plane where he opened it and realized it and handed it over to an FA.

Ah, the TSA... how effective are thee!

We deserve much higher pay and benefits. To try and state that pilot costs are a minimal expense to operate the airlines is however not the case.
Sources please. Also how do these numbers break down wrt vacations/PBS efficiencies gained etc etc.... This is important. If you are pulling these numbers out of thin air, you have no credibility. If they are hard facts, there is a ton of ammunition there to negotiate a staggering contract in the coming negotiations. I for one would like to see the comparison.

I haven't piloted either, but it would be a huge mistake to replace the 757 permanently with one of those two options.

I would say it is an impossibility. I am pretty sure the 737 cannot go from CVG to CDG... just a guess though.

Pilot cost sources are from talking to the union reps. There is no real secret there on what the contract costs are. Total costs for the company are out of the 10Q reports. Easy to goggle and look them up. Employee expenses are about 30 percent of the cost to run the airline and pilots are 1/3 of those costs. Nothing hard to look up or verify. In fact we will get 1/3 of the profit sharing pool since its based on income. Looks like that is going to be in the 100 to 120 million range depending on the 4th quarter for pilots.
I am not sure what you meant by PBS ect... As I mentioned we are a much larger group with the merger yet pilot costs are not much higher then premerger in 04. That is because of the things you mentioned and hundreds of other concessions.

Edit, From the annual report for 09 (10 not out yet) total expenses for Delta were 28 billion and change.

I'm trying to swap with the pot a 4 day on 1/21 for a 5 day on 1/22. The current denial reason is that the swap is 'not allowed until next months schedules come out'......

Any ideas why next months schedule would effect a swap with the pot for the CURRENT bid month. It's not a SPILL trip.
