Bottom line with all the AE training and moving Sims to Mecca they don't need to waste $$ by adding redundant initial training events to the mix. Never mind..... |

A Delta north guy was in the crew lounge in LAX tossing around DPA cards. He handed me one and I said no thanks I would like to have one after this contract negotiation. He asked why, I said "because DPA will only hurt not help at this point". Of course my opinion and I would like to see heat on DALPA to do the things right. I have said before there is no chance DPA can re-invent the wheel in time and not have the company use the DPA wedge to their advantage. Lets talk when DPA has more time to get an easy button from Staples. At this point he said something that blew me away, "so you are happy with the SLI?"
Maybe someone can offer me some guidance but are we really, really being drug into a union certification vote on the SLI issue? Even if this is a small part of the platform, what does DPA intend to do with the SLI? Is this his dog in the fight? |

What makes you think there is going to be a clean up bid? I doubt if they were ever planning on replacing these pilots, that's why they offered the early out program to pilots in the first place, surplus pilots = no backfilling when they go.
First, they really did not want to offer this program to pilots. Your union insisted that if it was going to be offered to all other employee groups, the pilots MUST be included. If you looked at the offer, it really was not that pilot friendly, yet a lot more than anticipated took it. Second, I agree there will not necessarily be clean up bid, but the fall bid will be early to account for training up for the early outs. |

Also, does anybody have a frikkin clue how they assign SC? I'm doing back to back days with all sorts of other guys available, and I have one of the highest raws. Dart board? Quija? Dice? New Scheduler: "So how do you assign short calls?" Scheduler A: "Well, personally, I do short calls on Mondays and I like to have everyone on short call. It just makes sense to me. So I assign the first 10 people short call whether there is any threat of weather or not. I just like it that way." Scheduler B: "What? No. I assign Tuesdays and I only put the five people on short call that were originally supposed to be assigned. If there is weather, I do seven. We'll cover the trips on white slips." Scheduler C: "I just pick at random. I assign every other person short call until I feel like I have enough and if some punk called complaining about my RUO work at 8am then everyone gets short call." New Scheduler: "What happens to the short call requests for PM and AM, how do you figure whose request is honored?" Scheduler A: "What request for PM or AM? What are you talking about?" Schedule C: "Yeah, I just go to the first guy and he gets 330, next guy gets 430, next guys gets 600, and so on. They can't bid PM or AM." Scheduler B: "I look at their requests and honor those in seniority order." New Scheduler: "So, it's just kind of random however you'd like to do it?" All: "Yes." ----- Seriously, there must be a RUO for SC. I had a buddy back in January that had a raw score of 70 or so from vacation but hadn't flown all month or even gotten SC. At that point I had a raw score of 0 and 2 SCs. He got SC and I requested and didn't get it. So there is a system probably similar to a SC raw, but we're not privy to and that needs to change because I hate requesting SC and finding out I'm one of only 5 on SC and wouldn't have been given it if I hadn't asked. We need to see what they're going to do and be able to put in requests. |

I do! And no I'm not gaming the system. By federal law we are required to be 100% fit for duty, there should not be a limit on our usage of sick time, and nor should there be a limit on usage per year...... |

Another big loss on "outsourced" flying, although this is own own subsidiary, so the losses are all ours. Now, lets see how much the Airport Board flips the property to the TSA for.
New on the HLN Channel, "flip this Airline Headquarters." But this should be viewed for what it is, an ABSOLUTE STRATEGIC FAILURE by Delta management. They paid $2,500,000,000.00 for Comair, took a $600,000,000 strike, then got mad about that and decided to outsource their own subsidiary's work, destroying the value of their own asset. The real cost of this mismanagement is over 10 billion when the cost of the airplanes are included. WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE? How different would our contract be if we had $10 billion sitting in the bank? For you senior guys that think "scope does not matter" what about the idiotic things our management does to take advantage of what we allow? Our airline works harder at trying to figure out how not to fly, than it does running a good operation. The result is the loss of billions. |
