Poor working conditions plus low pay plus disgusting heat?

The rest comes down to price and the terms of the deal. I would assume if we order Boeing they put together a better package.
We're going to replace a 180 seater with a 170 seater that pays less.

From a pilots standpoint there is nothing to be happy about.

From a passenger standpoint we've already discussed the 739's long list of issues. From a pilot's perspective 944 has flown it and "hated it" (picture In Living Color with that hated it).

Let's face it, this is an airplane that will **** off our passengers and probably our pilots. I'll be honest, I was excited to fly one IAH-DEN because it was new and cool and loooong. Got off it and swore I'd never fly on it again. But I had too on the way back. So the next time I got off it and found myself still hating it. And back then I was all pro Boeing screw Airbus. Wasn't long after that, plus lots of rides on 735s, I decided not to be pro Boeing.

It's going to be sad when people rather be on a CRJ-200 than one of Delta's new 739s. We're buying an airplane, new, that blows. Nobody raves about it. It blows. Hate to see us go down this road. I'm not bidding for it, probably won't fly on it, just hate to see my airline pick it. If they ordered 10 and 90 738s okay, but 100 739s?

By the way spoke to someone in engineering once and they weren't thrilled when the 738 didn't live up to expectations as a 752 replacement in Latin America. Can't imagine what they'll think of the 739.

And from an operational standpoint, it will be a disaster. We'll be asking for volunteers on every flight over 5 hours just to carry the gas. This aircraft was designed for short high density segments. Boeing has sold it as something it was never intended to be. We are trading 70's engineering for '50's engineering. The visionaries of yesteryear that built the industry on new capabilities would be appalled.

I'm sure Boeing was more than happy to sell these to DL, and it was probably done with a pie chart.

If we're going to order a domestic airplane from Boeing to replace 752s, order a domestic airplane from Boeing that can replace the 752:

Can the 739 take a full load west bound out of JFK to the west coast with typical winter winds?

Sometimes the 738 can't make it, but that's unusual. Had to land in DEN last year going from BOS-LAX. I highly doubt that the 739 could do it on a regular basis if what I read is correct. That being said, I've flown in the back of CAL's 739s on a few occasions and didn't find it really any different than riding in the back of a 738. They have better IFE however. DIRECTV and like 65 channels. They also had hot cheeseburgers and french fries on a red eye. Not sure how they pulled that off but Michael Chiarello, or whoever is doing our inflight menus, needs to be doing some research. It rocked.

Not without a penalty. The range that Boeing lists on their website includes TWO AUX TANKS. So take your pick... gas, pax, bags. Can't have them all arrive at the same place and the same time on that pig. Will we opt for the AUX tanks? What will that do to the weight and balance, not to mention the cargo capacity? Somebody stop this before it's too late...

No kidding. Shut down the 737 line and figure out a way to open up the 757 and 767 lines with the automation and problem solved. Screw the 737 !
