Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
From a SWA thread, has anyone heard this yet?
Looks like the 717 may is being used as a form of trade with Delta for a gate SWAP in ATL. Sources say that WN first 4 gates will be at the D gates starting in Feb 2012 and now WNand Delta are in talks about trading All the FL C gates for all of Delta D gates.
Along with this gate trade WN will trade 30 717 for 10 737-700 and 3 737-800 from Delta next year.Along with this WN will be adding a mix of 80 new and used 737-700 and 800 from a Boeing leasing company from June 2012 until Jan 2013.
During this time frame 6 717 will be moved from the fleet at a time and replaced with New and used 737-700 and 800. Delta will add the 717 to replace the 29 DC 9 50 and the 13 737 in the swap plus add additional aircraft.
When all is said and done WN will have off loaded all of the 717. Retired all the 737-500 and a few 737-300. The cost saving from not having redo any 717 into the WN fleet and the retirement off all the 737-500 and some older 300 will end up saving WN millions a year.
And at ATL WN will end up with all the D gates with 30 gates total that will be able to handle a 737-800 The only down side is 1# no 717 in ever in the WN fleet.

Combining our C and D operation in ATL is probably one of the smartest moves DAL could make. I mean that. They can have D.

At just around $40M/jet the 739ER was a smoking deal (go see the 8-K) for a 180 seater, that would make the 737-700 price about $30M/jet using similar discounts for 124 seats. Compare that with 13.5M/jet Hawaiian just paid Boeing Capital for their 717 with 123 seats and it's obvious from a capital perspective where the 100-110 seater will come from. The C-Series can't compete in that market from a capital cost standpoint.

I see that LAX-HND will be flown by an A330 at the end of October. Block time 12:25. Haven't heard a word about the new permanent double bunk facility/interim condo on the 330 being complete or if the rumors about a shower curtain concession were true...
No no no.
We've already been told that Delta Air Lines "do[es]n't want the 717. Never have had a interest and don't today."
All those rumors of people writing verbatim what they've been told by people in the know about how "the board wants every MD-90 made including the Saudis and they want 717s and evidently SWA doesn't want them" are so far out of the loop it's not worth a moments thought.
Or, just maybe, people accurately repeatedly what they were told and there is a chance it could come to pass? Maybe?

You have to read it carefully - there is the Interim Rest Facility and the future Pilot rest facility, both of which are different than the Current Flight Crew Rest Facility.

Here's my take:
This has always been awin-win deal, the gates add a new element.
Take the 20 Boeing 717, add the Guadeloupe Holdings (Airtran) 717 and that's the DC-9 replacement fleet. A 3:1 swap for 717/737 always seemed the most equitable way to swap. I imagine the DC-9s accelerated retirement keeps GK happy about not helping a competitor grow with a 2:1 advantage...
As exciting as all this might be, I'm wondering where that leaves the DAL pilot when the dust settles. Will this deal be staffing positive?

Well, we had 16 MD90's and we will be up to 58 MD90's soon. We parked the 30/40's so once the -50's are parked that's 68 airplanes parked. But we gained 42 MD90's and if we received the 717's I think we are in a positive staffing situation.
"We believe the B717s will eventually fly for Delta. Southwest wants to keep a single fleet type and, as indicated in this article, and will be pulling flights from smaller cities. Delta just ordered 100 larger B737-900 aircraft of its indicated 200 aircraft requirement. "We believe the 86 B717s at AirTran, currently on lease from Boeing, will be traded in to Boeing for more Southwest B737's. Expect Boeing to then lease or sell the B717s to Delta, perhaps as a second, but yet unannounced, part of the recent B737 order from Delta to Boeing.
"This would be consistent with DAL's plan to limit capital expenditures while opportunistically upgrading the Delta fleet. It would also explain why DAL did not announce orders for smaller aircraft to satisfy part of its 200 aircraft total need.
"This decision by Southwest and our assumed moves by Delta would both seem be in the best interests of these two airlines."

It's all been published months ago. Log into DALPA then click on: Blue Water Bulletin to download it. If you're not logged in, you'll get an error.

Tidbits: When this first came out I talked to the head of the CROT in person. He told me the interim facility would be near 4R.
Sometime between 24 October and 28 October the westbound leg from LOS-ATL block time goes magically from 11:55 to 12:50, the eastbound block time doesn't change at all.
Probably the same for ATL-ACC but I'm too lazy to research it.
No, I read that bulletin, the RUMOR was that the company had delayed installation of the interim facility while they were evaluating routes (post Feb 2011). After they figured out what 12+ hour routes they wanted the A330-200 to fly, there was not enough time to install the interim facility so DALPA gave them permission to use a seat with a shower curtain until the interim facilities could be completed. Note that the bulletin said installation of interim faciilities would begin in early Fall 2011.
