I've seen that monstrosity. They sure do get paid a lot to use it. :D

Here's some interesting takeaways from that article:

  1. Mapes acknowledged that the airlines' imposition of baggage fees was "hostile" to customers. Delta hopes to evolve from just imposing new fees for what once was free -- checked baggage and meals -- toward selling improved services such as premium economy seats and eventually selling customized or bundled offerings. For example, passengers could buy things like food, in-flight Wi-Fi, priority boarding and other services by checking off boxes while booking a flight on Delta's website.
  2. "Historically, we have seemed to be singularly focused on selling airline tickets, and forgetting that we can sell customers other things," said Glen Hauenstein, Delta's executive vice president of revenue management, marketing and network planning. "We've been starving, and sitting on a ham sandwich the whole time."
  3. The airline is seeking additional revenue even as it shrinks its flight schedule. Delta plans to trim its flight capacity by 2 to 3 percent next year, and expects to continue reducing its workforce through methods such as buyouts and attrition, according to Chief Executive Richard Anderson.
  4. Southwest Airlines, which is taking over AirTran Airways and entering Atlanta, is exiting some of the smaller cities AirTran served from Atlanta, which "opened up a lot of opportunity" for Delta, Hauenstein said. But that may be offset by the new markets Southwest is entering, he added. Hauenstein also said Southwest has been "less aggressive" in discounting than AirTran was -- which he said was a positive for Delta.

What's more, the carrier sees a big opportunity to sell advertising targeting the captive audience of travelers on planes.

For passengers, that could mean an onslaught of sales pitches and advertising throughout the travel experience.

I can neither confirm or deny the existence of life, the universe and everything, BUT, I do agree. Back in the day, I had many buds who wanted to live in MSP, but couldn't hold it.

But given the density of people living in Florida, and assuming that it'd be a ER base (which would mean a raise for some), it would draw like moths to a flame.

Maybe not for the folks living north of MCO, but it's only a 4 hour drive from MCO to MIA straight down the turnpike. FLL is only 20 minutes from MIA, making it a natural co-domicile (the FAs already have that setup). PBI is a bit farther up the road...probably 1:15 from MIA. Heck, the 6:45am departure from FLL to ATL is the THIRD of the day....they could support a SoFL base with FLL alone.

FWIW, the FAs have been rumoring a pilot base in MIA for a couple of months. Take that for what it's worth.

So again I'll ask the question I asked shiznit: Why would we consider helping management achieve their dream of another buyout by agreeing to a contract extension?

You did not wright very much other than a complaint, so it leaves you open to a lot of questions. I am willing to listen and perhaps you can prove to me that DELTA owes you something. I am reasonable.

His comment was in the context of DAL sees itself as selling more than airline seats. Context is important in following threads. Boomer has never said anyone owed him anything. He made a humorous comment. Humor can be difficult to follow.
