Pretend you are the dad in the DAL family. My son would get a spanking for doing this at school.
I'm coming to the conclusion that most of our pilots are seriously under-estimating how much more the Southwest, UPS, and Fedex pilots make than us. I think most of the pilots on this board are pretty informed as a result of this board. We have pilots that think a 10-15 percent raise will put us on par with Southwest. That just is not true. It would have to be 45-50 percent to put us on par with Southwest. Thanks to ALPA's brilliant contract survey, the majority of our pilots really are uninformed.
Now I'll talk about our new reserve system. This is going to cause our pilots to fly all of his/her monthly trips in a short period of time. I just flew 9 days in a row. Now I'm in bucket 2 and probably won't fly for the rest of the month. Our senior pilots who have yet to fly will eventually be number 1 to go when everyone above them reaches bucket 2. They will then have to fly 8-9 days in a row as they will always be number 1 to go out. Now junior pilots will fly heavily in the first half of the month while senior pilots will fly heavily in the second half of the month. How is this better than what we had? I would have voted against this, but I did not have that option. DPA cannot come soon enough in my opinion.

Your missing the point Nu, If you have flown this or any of the 9s lately, you would agree that the maintenance on them has been lacking. I flew one on my last trip that had a total of 6 MEL/CDLs. I would rather they fix the planes, but if not, park them. The work load is high enough on that airplane without adding the working of multiple MEL procedures.
You are underestimating the intelligence of most of your fellow pilots. Most of us are smart enough to figure out that the W2 is the bottom line. Not all are going to take the time to dig into the numbers though. For example, $186.06 (SWA's 12 year Captain rate) X 105 TFP (SWA's pilots average TFP/month) works out to exactly the same pay check as a rate of $244.21 X 80 hours in a month.
We get sucked into these rate comparisons because that is the easiest thing to compare. With SWA, it is truly an apples and oranges comparison. DALPA could have done a much more credible job of providing relevant info to the pilots it represents by providing a more realistic comparison with SWA.
