Glad you got yours and are happy.

Others just aren't content sitting around, moving backwards or stagnating for a decade of their lives. Guy I just did some work for quit Piedmont, recently retired #7 at Southwest. Think we all could agree he did well when he saw what US Air's path was and left.

Delta's outlook needs clarification. The market has rewarded those with the flexibility and willingness to seek opportunity.

At some point Wilbur and Orville must have decided, pedaling big wheel bikes sucks ... lets build an airplane. The first step is always the admission that something could be done better with a little effort.

Not too many of them made. Most guys get a blank look on their face when I tell them my father flew the Mars!!

Denny

Edit: There is also an A-3D (All 3 Dead) he flew on the (can't remember the name of) carrier on display in New York City.
Denny,

I believe the Intrepid is the NYC based carrier/museum.

Thanks Wasatch! Yes, that's it. I just couldn't think of it off the top of my head. DOH! I was on a layover there a few years ago and went on it. Saw the A-3D there and called him. Sure enough, he flew it!! (Flew them off of a wooden deck carrier. The Bonhomme Richard if I remember correctly).

US Air is hiring. New hires bidding 190 PHL, 737 CLT, PHL and DCA, A-320 CLT, PHL and DCA.

The 737 / 320 in Atlanta is barely held by 5 year guys now. After the march bid it may take more than a decade's seniority to hold a similar position to what US Air new hires are getting off the street. Not that I would trade with them, but it highlights what effect Delta's planned capacity reductions might do to our junior pilots in a merger.

Like Bar said, glad you got yours. For junior guys their perspective might be different than yours.

At the risk of reigniting this whole SLI thing, which I really DON'T want to do, let me simply state my personal history:

Roughly 900+ original DAL pilots hired after me were put on the list in front of me, and every single one of them is younger than me. I didn't like it then, I'm not thrilled about it now, and it got me permanently displaced from my left seat. It is also water under the bridge. It is pointless to expend energy over something you have zero control over.

On the flip side, the guys on the lower half of the original DAL list now have a few thousand North guys ahead of them who aren't leaving anytime soon, myself included. The screw jobs are pretty evenly distributed. Let's focus on moving the ball ahead instead of dwelling on the past.

Maybe all the whiners and complainers can start a new thread "Any Latest and Crappiest about Delta". That way we don't have to sift through topics that have been hashed out about the SLI or have to read the "empty threats" from those stating they are/should/could have/ might/ leave for another company. If the company that you work for doesn't fit your personal interests, then by all means the best of luck to you in a new endeavor, but lets move on. Sheesh. Things happen which you have no control over and you can either relish in the past, or what should have been, or you can adapt to the new environment.

Maybe this thread is just gone on too long and it is time for me to quit reading.

Sorry Bar, I know it's what you preached a long time ago. It is what it is...........
What you forget is we both had WB jets and could do a overall category status SLI. A NKS, B6, ALK, etc does not have those seats so a pure category status would probably not be the way it would go down.

We aren't AMR or LCC. Bottom line... neither you nor I can proclaim for certain whether we would or would not have been better off without the merger. From my personal perspective, I know that all I've done is move backwards, and at this point there appears to be no end in sight for that. Glad things are working out well for you.

And isn't it interesting? When Richard I'm-not-here-to-merge-with-Northwest Anderson got here, he kept telling us what a great standalone business plan Delta had. We were simplifying our fleet for efficiency with a plan to eventually be all Boeing (737, 757/767, 777). DALPA was even on board with the idea of a standalone more efficient airline with growth potential and a bright future for all our employees. I'll never forget the wild cheers and excitement when TP announced at a C44 meeting, "the merger is dead." You guys sure changed your tune in a hurry.

You might have to cut off a couple fingers to call it a handful.
