There is certainly a place for them... Just not as many as there are.

Couldn't disagree more. Other airlines fly over HALF of Delta's domestic brand. Delta pilots fly less than half of Delta's domestic brand. That's the:
WRT SWAPA's international scope, it allows for code share and JV's...just like ours. SWAPA's scope would be no worse than what we have now for international operations. But it would be a huge win for our domestic operations...both for customer service and DALPA seniority list growth. Carl |

New mantra this month:
Better duty rig or I will hold my breath until they change it!!! The crewroom would look like Jones Town and still nothing would change. But hiring would begin. |

Uh... where on earth do you get THAT line of logic? I won't try to speak for sailing, but anybody that has been paying any attention would realize that it is his (sailing's) line of reasoning that wants DALPA involved in future negotiations with management. It is the Carls and donut crowd that thinks we can just demand things and they will be granted. USA management learned from what happened at DAL... they are just NOW catching on.
Constructive engagement describes the relationship at SWA with SWAPA where positive results are gained through MUTUAL respect. Our relationship is one of a poor sucker being scammed by a smooth talker who whispers in your ear: "You're a new style of union leadership." Carl |

And it is the "constructive engagement" types that refuse to concede that it has failed. They look the other way when our management rammed the truck through our scope loophole for the RAH scope violation. They look the other way when our management outsources over 90% of the LGA slots we fought hard to win. They look the other way when our management now fights to REMOVE the existing crew rest area on the A330 and want to put pilots in pax seats for their crew rest.

Carl As far as the LGA slot swap: None of us paid any attention. Had we done so, we would have realized that all USA did with those slots was exactly what DAL is/was proposing to do with them. RJ flying. Nothing changed except the livery. I admit that I got caught up in the euphoria too. I would hope that we all learned our lessons though, and that if those routes do not eventually grow to mainline that we will not be on board with management's pet projects. that doesn't mean that we have to hold our breath and wait for some leverage to come our way whereby we can bend management over the barrel however. I still believe we will be vastly more successful by cooperating than being obstinate. that being said: what is YOUR solution then? How are we gonna get the things you want? |

Hmmmm, since SWA screwed the airtran guys into signing. Does this mean that if we get a deal on the 717's that no pilots will come with them? How many 737 will we give up to make the deal happen? No more 50 seat RJS, cant have any more 70 and 76 seat either huh?
Somehow I feel this is not going to workout they way I hope. Just sayin They are still hiring. They will trade them out 1-1 when they do park them, not if. They have already stated that Boeing will either take them back and find someone to lease them to, or they will pay the leases and park them. |

Yeah hes bragging it up.
All things behing equal (ie price and frequency) pax may fly United just to experience the 787 as opposed to our warmed over 76es. Time will tell. Not to worry, we get some in 8 years.:o All she could talk about was the windows. She said the windows are going to be a game changer. People will fly 787s just to look out the window. FWIW. |

Yeah hes bragging it up. That aircraft at United will likely either be an anchor holding them down (ie plastic airplane that keeps on breaking) or launching them ahead of Delta as they deploy its frequency globally to places we may not be able to reach with our fleet (long, thin routes).
