SWA 717s to DAL w/o pilots at the end of the year (2012). There's a whole thread dedicated to it, so I'll leave it at that.

Pilot retirement program with a medical plan to be announced shortly (by the end of the month?). The plan targets certain age groups and pilot positions to smooth out the upcoming retirement demographics and numbers. It is reported to be generous.

The wierdest: ASA (expressjet) pilots being told by their Flt Ops chief that they will be "stapled" to the bottom of the DAL list. Apparently ASA (expressjet's) interview process is conducted by DAL now, including 73N sim time at DAL.

I dont have any first hand knowledge of any of this stuff except it is making its rounds. There is more too, but I don't have enough detail to make a coherent post.

Some bring criticism and pitchforks......

I say puff, puff, give.

That's a combi rumor of both the current/recent version of the 717 rumored mated with an older ASA/XJet/SureJet?/etc rumor.

As to the second part, while we would focus on the staple/flow, I'd want to see at least a 90%+ vote at ASA/etc for something like this or we'll be not only right back in DFR court but with dirtbag lawyers chomping at our seniority numbers. That makes something like this high risk:low reward from our point of view. Why risk future lawsuits and a possible raping of our seniority list when we could just start another regional start up from scratch. Like Compass.

Oh wait, we just did that.

So why get in bed with other airlines for something we could just do ourselves internally and entirely?

I don't buy the pilot shortage/supply argument either. Without something like this, DL can just mass hire from ASA and any other regional at will. Even with something like this, pilots, especially those not imminently about to flow or transition to mainline equipment will leave for other airlines anyway.

What exactly would this accomplish and how would it help stop large RJ outsourcing? Will management agree to make ASA the exclusive RJ provider? That could be a way to start the negotiations on this, but I don't think they will put the outsourcing crack pipe down long enough to even propose it much less seriously consider it.

ExpressJet does conduct at least a portion of the interview at the ATL training center. They use one of the 737 FTDs. I spoke with a few interview candidates in Feb who were reviewing a gouge before their FTD session. That's all I know.

Doesn't SkyWest own ASA? Seems to me that would make any kind of staple pretty hard....

I heard that too. They're gearing up for the flow this year.

Where's our compass contingent?

The latest rumor I heard was 80 flow ups in the fall. I don't know where it came from.
