Use different terms, though. If I were a rep, and someone said they were sending me a bar nugget, I wouldn't open the attachment.

You can't bring yourself to say it, can you?

In the late 90's, there were three places to go, and only one offered double-breasted. I was begged to come to class by all three (the interview as waived), and I figured the good lord made everything truly worthwhile double-breasted (see: L&G / underboob), so I accepted. Delta's offer. They weren't offering many signing bonuses, back in those days, but they made an exception.

Actually, I interviewed everywhere but SWA (because I have cats), and begged for a job at the first of the big three that even opened the door, and stopped here after I wore them down. It was a tear-filled moment, that interview.

Plato retired for good, soon thereafter. ;)

While I think I made the right long term play by staying here, you cannot assertively make that statement with certainty.

You are absolutely right. Let's revisit that in 10 years.

Bar,

FedEx I can agree with, Emirates not so much. Hands down they make better money, but it's not worth it to live in that region.

As I was once told you will never know if you made the right decision until you retire. When I got hired, lates 90s, American and United were they place to go. I only applied there and NWA. Hired by 2 with an interview at the third after I took the offer from NWA. Did I make the right decision? Who knows in hindsight I should have at least applied at Delta and should have taken up offers from friends and family to help me get on at FedEx. But that's today's picture who knows what it will be 10 years from now.

Bar I would not know you if I saw you but the way you come across on the interweb is as a bit of a whiner. From the time I have started following this board you have said that you are going to quit Delta for either a some oppertunity you have going or to go somewhere else. Life is too short Bar, if you truly hate it here so much move on.

You have some great ideas and insight and if I am reading you wrong my apologies.

caddis and all. Bar is one of the few here that is a rational, clearly thinking realist. He also does not succumb to confirmational bias like many others here.

As a side note, Delta is now seeing the effects of economic law in regards to employment. In my class, one individual had an offer from every major including SWA. Others like myself had left majors like UAL, CAL, TWA, ALK to come to Delta. Most everyone had was prior military as well. No one left class. Few turned down offers of employment and classes were always full.

After BK, that all changed. People no showed which was unheard before. People left class half way through training or shortly after for better careers at other airlines. It honestly shocked those on Virgina Avenue and on the fourth floor that it was happening and they were incredulous when discussing it. In their minds, Delta was still the best airline in the air and the most desireable career. Information that may have been true at one point, but time changes everything. Sure the Pan Am guys thought that way too in the 40's-60's.

Going forward, if we ratify a contract with scope sales and substandard compensation, the trend will not only continue but gain momentum.

If that happens, who here would not take a job at 24K month flying for an Asian airline while being US gateway based? Last I checked that is what I currently do. I'd miss Camp Narita... for a day or so until you met your first flight attendant crew :).

Its mostly true....but when it does, it's glorious.:D

Word on the street is that it's going to be raining $$ for DAL pilots soon.

Certainly no need for an overcoat here.

Delta looks good on a resume. Most here would have little trouble being hired elsewhere.

We will need to look at the numbers in this "production balance" as well as the possibility that ALPA would enforce it. Our history is that we use scope violations to negotiate.

An airplane with 757 CASM is a 757 replacement, irregardless of its size.

OK... If you are looking at pay only, You might be right. Going forward for at least a few years, FedEx might be a better deal. You can live anywhere you want, commute to MEM if that's your choice. I think our pay and benefits will be comparable if not better very soon, so that one will be reviewable in maybe as little as a month or so. M R Rats? Seriously? Dude, if you want to spend the rest of your working career locked in a country where you ARE a second class citizen, and the beck and call of a company that cares even less than any American companies about YOU.. then knock yourself the ___ out... good luck with that. Better money for sure.. but if that is what makes your world go around, then maybe it is the job for you. Let us all know how it is living there 24/7 when you aren't on the road. But you'll be a 777 captain, maybe even a double ugly captain very soon... wooo hoooo!!

The second paragraph. Couldn't agree more.

Third paragraph: As long as we have the stupid productivity pay system we have I guess you are right.. Too bad.

For the most part I agree with you, although American's aren't a second class citizen in all countries. My assumptions are you are eluding to the UAE.

I am speaking regarding contract work outside of the UAE. I don't have any experience with Emirates and can't speak to that, but I do have first hand experience with other contract work.

Most contracts are not worth the paper they're written on. A contract pilot can be let go at any time. If you are a person that could care less about job security then these jobs are great. The happiest pilots over there were the ones on temporary leaves of absence or on furlough. In sum, these pilots had seniority numbers and thus had a light at the end of the expat tunnel.

If your are brave enough and financially stable enough to resign your seniority then you are a lucky individual and I wish you the best of luck. If you don't meet these requirements, you haven't thought this option through rationally and you are blowing smoke.

Each individual handles the expat experience in their own way. Some embrace it, some tolerate it as a necessity, and some despise it. I can say that most fall in the last two descriptions, but you really won't know until you go for about year. Roll the dice!

This post isn't directed at any particular individual. I just want to put a little first hand info. out in the open for those considering such a move.
