It could be spun that way. Hey look, 88 growth jets! And maybe hiring would start immediately and it sure would look like that is the case. But what's to keep them from shrinking a year or so after the TA is ratified? We can't buy our own planes from the company. They are either getting them or they are not.

I still don't like that 717's are any part of this TA conversation. Ignore the carrot.

Delta can buy all the planes they want, but we should not pay for them in the contract. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a little movement. I'm just saying 717's (or any other aircraft) have no bearing when it comes to evaluating a TA.

The growth promise is the oldest trick in the book. Keep in mind that we (DAL/NWA) have parked well over 100 DC-9's in the past decade. Many of them -40's which I understand is pretty much a 717. Let's not be blinded by what is apparently a replacement aircraft.

Not saying I'm voting NO. Just saying we need to separate the promise of growth, and objectively evaluate this deal, warts and all.

Very true statements on many levels. Growth can change overnight with any number of disaster scenarios. Contract negotiations are negotiations not demands so there will be good with the bad, if the good outweighs the bad and there are no red herrings maybe it will pass.

Agreed. But if we do get the 717, having to eat 1000 or so AT pilots at greater than date of staple would be another tsunami of stagnation for this pilot group for no reason whatsoever for them other than sport bidding for fun and/or helping SWA lower its cost structure and purge their culture cult.

You are right about replacement aircraft, and I think long term th 717's will be MD-88 replacement aircraft (IOW they will still be here as 88's are being parked) in addition to more 76 seaters (DC-9-10 relacement jets) which will help replace even more MD88's, older Airbuses, etc, not to mention AS and HI growth, more DL shrinkage and fewer pilots required due to work rule and staffing changes.

There is no way that pilots are coming with the 717's. That would negate the "growth" aspect of these jets as they will probably be counted to offset some addl. 76 seaters(with the loss of a LOT of 50's)

Just some preemptive checks and balances from concerned line dogs. Nothing wrong with that.

I mean it's just a pet peeve of mine. Kind of like when people say tit-for-tat. That makes no sense, it's tit-for-tit.

We can say tit?

No but since its a palindrome you can sneak it by the autocencor by spelling it backwards.

By the way, why is palindrome not a palindrome?

We are not getting the 717's from AT/SWA. These leases are going to be terminated. Boeing will hold the jets for X amount of days. We are going to get the jets through the Boeing leasing agent. This is turns voids any pilot attachment with equipment.

I believe tit is ok, plural tits is over the lines unless your a Navy guy referring to the lack of operational capabilities of electronics or other equipment. "it's tits up!, "Tango Uniform"

You could say he's tits up about a buddy the augered one in but probably politically unacceptable to say that about a female aviator.
