Isn't that 360 this year with an additional 900 next year for a total of 1260? None the less, I don't think this summer was a result of not enough overall bodies(although that was a minor contributor), the problem was the bodies weren't in the right equipment. IOW, a year ago with $1M men on the 350....it wasn't the overall number of pilots....it was the proper number of bodies in the proper equipment.

Let's revisit this topic next summer and see if management can manager better or worse than armchair quarterbacks. If they fix the Max problem.....that will help tremendously....new hires will allow them to get the bodies where needed......time will tell

When the Max problem is fixed, the market is going to be flooded with cheap seats. I'm more worried about that than a projected hiring number.

Yes the company is going to start hiring many more pilots.......but is it enough? I see the company hiring for attrition while we are in contract negotiations. They want the NMB to see they cannot give us anywhere near what we are asking because it would hurt the operation. I wonder what hiring will be like after a Contract is ratified....

Agreed. 100+ 737’s suddenly flying will definitely have an effect.

Yup this group will green slip just as much.

They had all year to get manning on the right aircraft. Why didn’t they? They never seem to be able to because the plan changes every month. You know this.....I’ve been here over 31 years and guess what....the Manning has never been right!

We should have been hiring more over the last year. They are playing catch up now........when big number retirements are starting to happen. We will see.

Gotcha beat in years....BFD

Like I said.....got my count down clock going......armchair quarterback (Mr Denny Crane) vs the Company.......either way, macht nichts to me, the GS hogs are ecstatic if mgt mucks it up and "the Denny Crane" can say "I told you so".....and if the company can actually manage the situation....you can walk away into oblivion ....."So Be It"...MPDGAF.....(most people don't give a eff)

I believe you are looking at 300 plus airframes.

One of the big issues with manning this year was the 737 MAX. A bit hard to anticipate both the event and duration.
It presented a opportunity for Delta. Should the union help or hinder when those types of opportunities come up?

I don't think the "union" can do either. It is their job to monitor and enforce the contract, it is up to pilots to determine if they will chase the dollars and pick up the open time. So far, the answer has always been 'yes, we will help for a price'
