Delta Hiring News

Is anyone getting CJOs without a masters yet? It seems like everyone at this point getting a CJO/hired have advanced degrees. I guess getting those once thought of as pointless non-mandatory, mandatory degrees for military promotion boards may be paying off for some.

It sounds like you've got a good 'scoring' flight time, GPA and education. Look through your app and see if there are some other boxes that are within reach. Like Olario did, keep checking the boxes and updating your app. Have others review your app (prep services or other pilots) and look for things to improve.
I've heard that everything from spelling to punctuation to consistency is scored once a human looks at it, but it has to meet a minimum raw score before it's pulled from the computer. Keep adding those check boxes until it meets the magic number.
Any other suggestions for flyguy81?

It's been said before on this board; it's all about the score on your app.

Short of adding more ratings I'm at a loss of what other boxes to check. I've got a few internal recs and as friends get hired will keep adding. I added some volunteer work to the app but with 2 kids under 2 I haven't done much lately. Went to WIA in March. Missed OBAP due to work....heard there they were looking you up on the computer to tell you what your score was and ways to increase it.
What I have been informed is after attending OBAP, they "review" our apps for just showing up. I was told that they do not give extra points for attending, but if you added stuff to your app, it's one way to have it reviewed to see if you score higher from the last time it was reviewed. You will never know what your score is. I've been told that information is safe guarded and will always be. They will tell you what's desirable though: LCA position, management, good GPA, Masters, etc.
Final thoughts, not sure if obap helped any. Maybe I'm on the invite list. Maybe invite is 2 years away regardless. It's hard to know, but I can't figure anything else out and know I have to do what I can to get noticed. I figure WIA and OBAP is a shot in the dark, but believe the chances are even less likely if I don't go.

Civilian here. On my interview day there were 5 mil and 3 civ. 2/3 civ had masters.
Of course if you dont have a Masters is not a disqualifier by any means, but all things being equal and you have a Masters, your chances are greatly improved.
BS GPA 3.6
MBA GPA 3.8
In my case, I got the MBA because I have 3 kids and could not bear the thought that I had no back up plan if I ever loose my medical, got fired, etc PLUS I knew that people with Masters degree are usually in a better position to get an invite for an interview at the Majors. It was expensive and a lot more work than I expected (Im not the brightest of the bunch) but worth it.
Its frustating for those that have not gotten the invite yet. You know you are a great guy/gal, a safe pilot, clean record, plenty of TT, TPIC, etc. There are literally thousands out there. They will call you.
My MBA does NOT make me a better pilot or person. Its an extra box that I checked on my app. Delta seems to like that box right now. Things will change as hiring moves forward. Its strictly a supply and demand game.
I have being applying at Delta specifically since 2007. Finished my MBA in 2011. Upgraded to Captain in Jan/2014. Attended Women in Aviation job fair early this year. Got the invite July 3.
I dont know what triggered my invite. I had to wait 7 years, but meanwhile I kept trying to check as many boxes that I could to improve my chances. I really wanted to work at Delta. I start Indoc in a couple of weeks. Feel extremely lucky.

I'm glad to see guys like your insight and also gratefulness to get the job. DL is where I have wanted to work from the young age as a child. When I get it I will be extremely grateful as well.
Best wishes!

I went to OBAP in August. They didn't look up scores to let us know what they were. The person I got looked at my stuff and said "you look great!" I don't know if it really made difference for me honestly. Maybe it did, maybe it didn't. While we were standing in line for DL everyone was given a piece of paper about the size of a business card that stated our attendance at obap did not get us an interview, but what gets us an interview is what's on airlineapps. It said a little more, but that's it in a nutshell.

I've no idea if these job fairs will pay off. At least it's a tax deduction I suppose.

They will pay off. I got hired in early 07 and know that attending job fairs was a big part of getting the invite. I would go to as many as you can until you get an invite.

The only two people I know that would have been able to release that kind of information would have been AK or Call F. I know there were others in hiring there, these two are the big key players that I saw there. I would have loved to talk to either knowing they are more the source to information concerning our status, but the luck of my draw in line.
Of the many individuals I spoke with in detail about their experiences none said anything about scoring. Not to say this is not possible, but so may have stated at Delta this is safe guarded information. Maybe they are allowing more information to be released.

This is definitely news to me. I will say if she spent 20 minutes with someone then she hit it off well. I was with my person for about 15 minutes and it was a good interaction, but was told no information could be given about where I stood in the application pool or scoring - these were specific words as well. I will say that there were many there talking to applicants that do not work in hiring. I know this because they were former colleagues of mine and I have been able to keep up with their roles at Delta. The person I talked to worked in the MSP cpo so she wasn't in hiring but volunteered to be at obap.

My time at WIA was about 5 min talking to a normal line CA. They wouldn't really let us get more face time due to the long lines. Seemed like every airline had the same thing to say: "you look great, we'll call you eventually." Been applying for 7+ years. Eventually is a long time.
Is what it is. The flows are running out and we will have a better shot in 2015. I haven't given up for this year, but I'm resorting to next year to hopefully get an invite.
I know many will say "you have to be patient". I get that, but every month is lost seniority which transcribes to opportunity and pay. Also, when you eat, breath, and think only about how to get noticed and it has been burned down every time it does get frustrating. I definitely know what you mean. Like Olario stated, it will happen. I just know you, I, and many others that have been hard core for 7-8 years wish we knew and it was soon.
Best wishes for us both!
