Delta Hiring News

I don't think Delta cares if you have a few failures in the first few years of your training. What they DO care about is honesty. Don't try to sugarcoat anything in your interview. Be 100% honest, if they catch you lying they will show you the door and never let you come back. They would rather see you own your mistake and find out what you learned from it. As long as you have a "reason" and not an "excuse" you should be OK.

I wouldn't go that far. I know good people who interviewed and didn't get hired. They're still good people, but they made mistakes during the interview. My point is your logbook and checkride performance while important, aren't the ones getting the interview, YOU are.

Sorry but I disagree here. A buddy of mine was given the interview because of OBAP last year. He talked to an FO who directly told him he would put his name in and to expect a call in a few months. Two months later he got the call and was subsequently hired. He had no fix it emails, no strong recs, nada...without a doubt it was OBAP.

I think the only one as of late that had a "high success" rate for ratio of attendees to interview to hires was the Alaska ALPA event recently.
I've known more than one guy that didn't attend a single job fair, got called/hired. One had ZERO TPIC.
It's great it worked out for your ONE SPECIFIC friend, but you can't draw conclusive evidence that it's THE NORM.

The formula for any 'red flag' on your application is the same:
1. State the facts- ie. this is the maneuver I screwed up on. I was pulled over for XYZ. I was doing 68 in a 55 zone.
2. Take responsibility- I don't care if the examiner didn't like the way you dressed, or the police officer 'had it in for you', acknowledge and accept that you did something wrong. (not whether or not you deserved it)
3. Tell what you learned from the event- I should've been paying more attention to the speed limit signs. I needed to focus more on the moment and the maneuver instead of dwelling on that little mistake I made earlier in the ride.
4. Show that you applied that knowledge- You'll notice from my record that I haven't had a ticket in the last 10 years. As you can see in my training records, I haven't had any training issues since that event.
For anyone going back for a second interview somewhere, this formula can even be applied to interview failures. Treat them just like any other 'red flags'.
