Not sure how that applies to previously discussed hypothetical unfilled CSeries positions. Yes, there certainly would have to be block hour reductions to create unassigned pilots. But that block hour reduction would have to be so significant that the Company would have to post several displacement-only bids like the 2004-2005 era to get pilots into an unassigned category. By the time all that happened, the CSeries positions will have been filled via means other than the obscure contract provision of 22.E.11.

One thing to keep in mind, unassigned pilots can be created and then junior manned into a new category in the same bid. It would mean in this case the company would have to not award most of the posted AE’s.

Bingo, you have kind of made my whole point about hiring. The hiring will be driven by block hours. Unless fuel goes up and the block hour plan drops we will hire in the fall.

Help me with the math on hiring. We are overmanned in the two busiest months such that reserves are sitting around and company is offering SILs. I’m thinking we will be even more over manned once summer peak ends. Only issue will be summer of 19, and how many more will we need then vs this summer?
I saw about 175 retirements this year, didn’t add up numbers first six months of 19.
I’m not seeing any need for hiring in the fall, more like Jan to meet next summer requirements plus retirements.
Not saying you’re wrong, just not understanding

It’s all about oil. Flights we would operate at 40 a barrel we won’t at 75. If oil goes to 100 we may not hire anyone next summer. I hear the plan is based on oil at 60. Let’s hope it drops!

I was in a briefing back in April where SD and JG both spoke and they individually stated they were expecting retirements to range 20-35% above age 65 alone.
