A quick question for the masses from a military retiree that is naïve to the 121 world. I'm a poolie who probably won't start INDOC until Jan 2016. My First Class medical expires Nov 2015. Do I need to renew my medical prior to it expiring in November, or can I let it expire and renew it prior to INDOC?

You just have to have one when you show up on day 1. However, it might be prudent to just get it renewed now since you are going to have to do it within a month or two anyway. After you are on the property, the company will be paying for it. Renewing now will also give you a little time to "fix" any problems that could potentially pop up. You never know.

You need a valid FC1 day one of training. I had to renew mine out of pocket.

I agree. Also, a Senior AME told me once that in a close case, the FAA is more likely to renew a current FC than to issue a new one. Don't know if that's how it's supposed to work, but why take a chance?

Gut feelings on whether or not Paris events will effect poolie timelines?
