Can you provide an example of a "DALPA operative" posting about "why we must provide concessions"? You made a claim, back it up.
A dALPA operative is anybody that doesn't agree with PD or Carl.

I wear the moniker proudly.

That's hardly any concrete proof of what Jerry said. But if you wanna run with that, I couldn't care less what Lee intimated about our contract. I will read it and vote on it, and he WILL sign it if it passes. There can be all forms of propaganda one way or another, and it still comes down to the group's votes. If I like it in the aggregate, I vote yes. If not, I vote no. It really is that simple. And he WILL sign it if it passes.

Of course, now that I am a unofficial dALPA operative, you can expect non stop salesmanship from me. That is of course unless Carl cares to bask up his big fat mouth with some cold hard cash.

The FAs apparently have some sort of temporary base swapping capability. I think it is only good for a month, and cannot be done in a vacation month. In talking to one on my flight today, I thought this might be interesting to explore for us. What do ya'll think?

If it's anything like TDY, it's a productivity enhancer (i.e., concession). While it can be a great deal for a commuter like me (free hotel, PS travel to and from work, 24/7 per diem), it is used by management to balance staffing among bases in lieu of deadheading. As such, it reduces credit time in the bid package and required staffing.

Well. If you say so:

How do you figure? If you are ATL based, and I am NY based, and we swap bases for a month, how does that balance anything that is out of whack? The only inequity that I can see is that a junior guy in NY (me) cannot hold anything in a senior base (ATL), so the ATL guy that I swap with would be bidding to a more senior position. There would be a certain potential for abuse if there is a buddy network I would think, but I don't see how this would solve any of management's problems if it is a 1 for 1 swap.

I am just throwing it out there because it seemed intriguing...

Got it. I was thinking that this was a one-way base swap where a single FA goes to another base for a month. You're right -- in a one-for-one swap, there would be no benefit to management.

That said, I would think it's a much broader and wholesale version of these two pilots swapping single trips off the Swap Board. It that's so bad, why is this OK?

I'm not necessarily saying it is OK. I was just wondering what others might think about it and if it warranted further discussion. The way the FA talked about it, it was a way to go do something different for awhile. She said there were restrictions like you could only do it two months in a row, and not during vacation months.. things like that. You could put a restriction on it like you could only do it 1 time/year, or only once with the same pilot ever. I guess the potential for abuse on some level is always there, and like I said in the original post, I am sure some kind of buddy buddy network would pop up. It just seemed a little interesting, that's all.

Agreed, but I'd prefer to start with out-of-base swap board and see how it goes from there.
