Airlines will be painting and re-doing interiors right up until they park them. Airlines hire like mad until the next day then they're furloughing. None of that is an indication of wanting to keep an airplane around or not. The 200s will go away. Its not a matter of if, but when. Interesting that your own management is even saying they will be pulling the 200s out of NY come 2018. Just so happens to be the year that the C-Series begins coming online. This industry is feast or famine. Endeavor is feasting right now... Everyone knows what comes next. If you aren't on property when the good news arrives, you already almost too late.

Just because PSA can't staff their 200's and they're going away doesn't mean Endeavor will be the same. I may not be the biggest 9E cheerleader, but this non-sense of 200's going away totally needs to end. There will always be a need for 50 seat flying in select markets.
And the 50 seaters will go away. Maybe not all of them, but the vast majority of them will. Endeavor can hire right now. Endeavor can hire because it offers an industry leading compensation package. The pilot pool is shrinking. All it takes is a couple of negative factors and your airline is no longer the most desirable place to work. The eventual rising price of gas and lack of new hires will mean the 50 seaters will go away in a lot of places. And something else to consider, is it possible that Delta realizes a lot of its regional pilots will have been hired elsewhere by 2018? Perhaps they plan on shrinking the 50 seat fleet organically because they know a lot of pilots will have moved on to bigger and better paying things than a regional.

It's not just us...

Upper management visited our class this past Thursday and said the same thing, except (I believe) he meant the 200s were going to be gone by the end of 2017 into 2018. The 2-class product (900s) is what they wanted to focus on in NYC. Something about giving the NY passengers a first class option. Where the 200s go from there is anyone's guess. Maybe back to DTW and MSP?

Same thing in my newhire class a few months back. Management specifically stated that Daddy D's 200 endeavor (see what I did there) in NYC is just a temporary plan. It was stated that not all 200s will go back to the desert, but the majority of them will based on current plans... Just reiterating what management told us as well.
As for my opinion on this: who cares what happens to the 200s? 18 months is a long time in this industry for things to change. Come 18 months, yeah, the airframes very well could go back to the desert as planned... or maybe they'll get extended 3 more years? Maybe we'll get 700s until they go to the desert? Maybe Atlanta will throw some E-jets this way? Or maybe there will be a hiring freeze, bonuses will discontinue, and we'll all be "stuck" (I doubt the last scenario, but then again, welcome to aviation).
I don't think any of us really know what the future holds, and while a little speculation can be interesting, I wouldn't lose sleep over any of this at night. Life's too short to draw on things that cannot be controlled.

There are a good number of current CA's who are CJO holders as FO's. Not sure the exact number because the list is on lockdown. Heck, I'm one of em in D9C and know a few others who are in the same boat in D9C/D2C personally. Same for MSP and NY I'd assume by logic, but ya never know with logic and aviation.

Network also came into our upgrade class recently and told us starting next summer the 200s will start to be removed from NYC and be replaced with dual class aircraft! He didn't know exactly where the 200s will be absorbed, but DTW and MSP was his opinion.

I guess I hadn't considered that there are some current upgrades with a year + to wait for the CJO class. That will provide openings for reserve if the backfilling of those openings comes back. What has no prospect of happening is holding a line on the 900 (captain) in DTW or MSP for a very long time without growth (and certainly not if it continues to shrink)

Thanks to Bloch many of us didn't have a choice in what aircraft to upgrade into you know? And I'll save the next commenter the trouble.... Reserve in base beats commuting to a line especially a commute to New York.
