I have two CJO's, Envoy & Skywest. And yes I know the contracts for both airlines and have insiders to talk to for both companies. Orientation class date is on Dec 15th with Envoy and I have a 175 class with SKW on Jan 15th. I wIll be living in Tampa FL, knowing that with Envoy I have a remote chance of an MIA base assignment (Non-cadet), would you commute for SKW forever or would you roll the dice with Envoy for the chance of MIA? I'm thinking with the American network it would be easier to commute out of TPA. I understand that I may have to wait to get a shot in two-three years when bidding for CA as cadets will probably suck up all the 175s in class. Moving away from Tampa isn't an option, wish it were. Thanks!

It’s tough because you’re commuting no matter what. I’ve heard ORD is a reasonable commute from Florida, and it looks like SkyWest went back to making the ORD base most junior for their 175 (less time commuting to reserve). The flying on the 175 ORD at SkyWest is probably the best flying in the entire regional industry for some reason.

Envoy fits better for the long run with the flow and MIA. That will be years of pain before glory. It depends on your mindset, are you trying to move on from the regionals ASAP? OO will give you turbine time faster and quicker upgrade, but if you plan on being around longer, they’ll never have a Florida base. Envoy will have the MIA base for a very long time I’d assume, you also have flow as backup to AA which will have MIA as well.

Honestly you should try everything you can to be hired at spirit ASAP. Or any of those LCC’s with Florida Domicile’s.

UGH! No other east coast options for you?

Talk to your people about jump seat priority at SKW verses ENY. One good thing at ENY is non-rev/jump seat priority. Staying in network for a commute makes life a bit better.

Thank you for your reply, I totally agree with your assessment. I do not want to make any regional my forever home and turbine time with upgrades is my priority. Any LLCC is really my goal, Frontier has a junior base in Tampa, Spirit/Jet Blue are all in Florida, even Breeze is on the table as an option. But having AA in my back pocket seems nice, especially if anything happens. I just know that at SKW, people seem to stay there forever. I was thinking the other way around, the crappier the regional the more the attrition. Envoy being WO by American I would think it's easier to jumpseat out of Florida on American metal than if I were OO. Either way, the KY jelly is ready to go.

Yea, it all depends on where you get based for OO to whom which airline you get jumpseat with priority. I had an Endeavor interview but classes are spring of next year, and I never looked at Republic or PSA. Yea, American seems to have more Florida flights than United or Delta, why I'm leaning towards ENY.

I would go to Envoy, you’re going to be commuting either way, might as well have better flight bennies, and the flow as a backup like you said. I’d almost shoot for ORD, I’ve heard TPA-MIA can be a nightmare of a commute.

We also send an awful lot of pilots to Spirit.

From what I have heard, I agree with the TPA-MIA assessment. I know of quite a few that opt for TPA-DFW instead, especially for reserve. However, you COULD drive TPA-MIA if desperate and circumstances allow. Definitely can’t do that TPA-DFW.

I passed my interview with Envoy on Sept 8th - and the interviewing captain told me to expect orientation some 6 weeks later. It's been over 6 weeks now and I still haven't heard anything ;( I am kina worried that I might be lost in the process. Not sure what to do - I don't even know who to call/email.

I also have class date scheduled in Jan with Endeavor and they are very proactive in sending me documents / getting started. I get the impression that they want people to commit. Both Envoy and Endeavor are fine companies in my opinion and I am going to move to base (wherever that will be...) so it really doesn't matter I guess.

Anyone have any idea how long after passing interview one can expect some kind of contact? If it is going to be a long wait in the dark....I might just go with Endeavor with set dates.

Do you have any phone or email that you used in the interview process? Start there. If not, Google them and start there.

That is very much the Envoy way, get used to it if that’s what you choose.
