Ahh ok. I thought it was at the captain discretion if they sat jump...not both jump and in the back.

Guess the reason it seems weird is what reasoning would the captain have to deny you a seat in the back?

Talk with your jumpseat committee volunteer off this website. They’ll be happy to explain. You can also find some good info on the ALPA website.

Can’t really discuss it much more than that because this site restricts jumpseat procedure discussions. Go to the ALPA website and hit the jumpseat info there. It will explain all the details.

This is the part that is almost never communicated in JS discussions, and only applies to AA travel.

Well, one reason would be that he considers you an ungrateful a** for not having the courtesy to say hi and introducing yourself.

Has anyone managed to commute while on reserve and get away with just using the 4 hotels per month?

Trying to avoid at all costs a crash pad. Any other options out there. Cheap hotels/motels are running $500/week or so.

Suggestions

NY based? You'll need a crash pad.

When I went through, the guys in my class we doubled up in the hotel rooms. That helped to make them last. Then again it was only a month and a half of reserve. Not sure how long it is at your base
