Also, with all the company talk about growth and regaining flying I have to think this has something to do with it...better staffing = more flying.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say, but I don't think Skyvector is wrong if I'm understanding right. He's saying how this will help staffing because less captains (or senior FOs) will be pulled SA into the training department for sim instruction. I didn't see anything more into it.

We all know the company wants more flying from AA and I have to think this is a means to increase staffing thus trying to alleviate current staffing conditions plus future flying.

Yeah I wouldn't want to be one of the first groups to be going through this. There are going to be some growing pains associated with it I'm sure.

Some of you guys are seriously mental...there is no other explanation. Look, our Captain upgrade requirements have absolutely ZERO to do with Captains becoming sim instructors. None. But each Captain who does leave the line for the school house is one less line flying pilot. We need both right now, sim instructor AND line Captains. Upgrades are not slowing down..that's tied into our increased flying and continuing flow to AA. PSIs allow us to cover both areas without sacrificing any staffing. Period.
It's not any more complicated than that. And AA has been hiring PSIs since time immemorial...this is nothing new.

I'm sure that plays a small role in the amount of upgrades needed but I don't see the upgrades slowing even slightly due to this change.

Optimistic rumors never come true. There are no "new" bases. The fleet is shrinking. ORD has become a skeleton of its former self in just the past few months. Schedules are horrible and inefficient, with minimum days off and usually only 2 days off in between trips.
Lot's of captains have enjoyed the ability to be home everyday by working in the schoolhouse as instructors. It appears this will end soon.

What increased flying are you referring to? The fleet has returned to its regularly scheduled shrinking. ORD is dying on the vine. I'm truly curious what you are referring to by "increased flying."
