But they can't fire you, though. Can they fire someone for refusing to be a captain? I can see a probationary pilot being fired. I'm just playing devils advocate here. Because I'm just curious if this could be the wake-up for fixing reserve section of our CBA. That's the main reason why no one upgrades and is totally in company control to fix.

V1, rotate, YOUR AIRCRAFT!!!!

Can the company really do anything?

If you get two points during CA training you can voluntarily go back to FO.

Or would they leave the spots open and just fill them via new hire classes? I’m on the 145 and wouldn’t mind getting the 175 in ORD but just unclear on what they do if they can’t fill all the spots.
First- The union needs to put out information on this soon. This isn't a "displacement " but essentially it is.

Second seat locked FOs can't proffer to displace. If you are on probation you are still seat locked and can't proffer to displace.

Third what ever happens won't matter to junior FOs. Only CAs/senior FOs.

Yeah I figured as much but was hoping maybe it would work out that way. Thanks for the input

This seems to have caught them with their pants down since we haven't heard anything. I hope they're crafting some sort of response and the hold up is having to run it through legal, otherwise this looks especially bad on them.

No it hasn't. I've talked to some guys and I know for a fact that they've known about it for awhile now. Hopefully they put out an email breaking all of this down soon.

Woulda been nice to get a heads up. I know you can't please everyone or tell everyone anything but this is going to be a huge life change for many pilots here.

Agreed. The silence is deafening. Par for the course I suppose.

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Our union volunteers work really hard. A move like this by the company, which will adversely affects many pilots, is usually met with an email from ALPA expressing their displeasure with the company's approach. Unfortunately, with this language in the contract, there's not much else they can do.

I understand that it's part of the contract. But an email explaining the facts would be nice. The only hint that the pilot group has gotten that the company is going to force FOs to CA if they have to is the 1 page of the vacancy bid that said to update your displacement preferences in case there are insufficient CA bidders. And this hasn't caught ALPA off guard. I talked to a couple of different guys in ALPA leadership a few weeks ago. They knew that this was coming on this vacancy.
