I’m a jr lineholder in ORD and I’ve been able to trade out of 4 day trips into 1-3 day trips and still keep similar credit. It helps a ton....we got a newborn at home. I think I’ve been lucky to be able to do that. And I live in base.

When I was on reserve they might put a one day trip on your schedule, but, it’d be almost certain that by the time you landed back at base you’d have more flying added to your schedule. I only got a turn once or twice. Granted, I was only on reserve for about 2.5 months....again....lucky...

There's plenty of opportunity to fly 1/2/3 days. When you hold a regular line you can use the initial improvement window to drop the bigger trips. With bigger trips cleared from your schedule you can then pick up smaller trips or do split pickups (both open time and advertised).

We also don't do 5 day trips. I've never seen or heard of one here.

But maybe we should. At least a few trips, or even 5-day trip only lines. Three 5-day trips in the month and done.

Add some stipulations for it. Must be easily commutable, must be productive. Minimum 3 days in between. Just a few ideas.

That's exactly what they have at Endeavor. Rigged to 25 hours, must be commutable on both ends.

Doesn’t 4 day trips become a stretch after a while especially if you are doing 3-5 legs a day? Do you guys feel burnt out?

Is this normal at every regional?
I talked to few guys at republic and it seems common for them to have 1-3 day trips for a junior reserve and a line holder.

Depending on the trip, yes absolutely. I'm DONE by day 4. I go back and forth between short trips and long trips. Sometimes I would go a month or 2 without a 4 day. Sometimes I'd go a couple weeks without seeing a hotel. If you live in base and hold a line, you have that flexibility.

5 day reserve assignments are the norm.

I just saw a Commutair captain who must have been 25-26 years old. He holds a line and makes $70k per year.

"But Expressjet has the best training in the industry!"

I make 75k a year as a commuting FO, that’s a joke.
