Ok gotcha! Seems one would assume it’ll take several more than typical attrition would. I would assume that overall attrition will be high January and February as the Majors and LCCs start pulling in new hires to prep for summer schedules and get their new year hiring goals off to a good start.

I also think that we might see quite a few people leave via the new Frontier deal. If you throw the normal attrition in on top of that it doesn’t look good for growth. I could be wrong. You could be wrong. If I’m not mistaken, we are also continuing to lose aircraft to CommutAir. Theres also the question of additional 175s being added to the fleet. Sure, there are rumors of that, but I hear all kinds of rumors all the time that never become reality.
That’s fair. Just seems to me the high upgrade time was the biggest knock on ExpressJet for recruiting. When I have talked to recruiters it has always kind of been the elephant in the room for them. They got the first 200 or so with a 7 year upgrade and the rest with almost 4. I might be wrong but I think a lot of people will see the low upgrade time combined with immediate class availability and they will want to come here.

It is possible that people on the outside will see the new upgrade times (if upgrade actually drops to two years) and decide to come here. On the other end of that, not everyone can be a Captain at this company right now because we don’t have enough First Officers. Do you think they’re going to upgrade a lot of people right now when they don’t have enough First Officers for the other seat? Then again, they could always make reserve Captains fly in the right seat while they wait for more new hires to arrive, but that’s awfully expensive, considering the company has done away with Red Flag incentives to cover open time. I’m also concerned with the quality of new hires now. I’m not sure other companies that offer more are receiving the same type of applicants.

The upgrade will definitely drop below 2 years by the end of the year. There’s no if. It’s up to management and they are already bragging about it. They will do it for recruiting purposes whether it makes sense or not. They have already demonstrated they will hand out however many CA awards necessary to get the times where they want them.

Low upgrade will make this place much more attractive. No one comes to a regional expecting good QOL. The overriding idea is get the time and get out. Low upgrade times are extremely attractive.

Whoever this person is, their strategy here is to expectations low.

In fact, he isn’t wrong. Expect a very low QOL here. But hey, that (faked) upgrade time!

November bid packets are out. The lines have been reduced again. Big surprise 🙄

New Hire/Rook questions.....if we’re adding routes but losing lines, does that mean we’re losing flying, longer sits or what? Appreciate the education.

It pains me to rain on the recruiters parade, but the lines have been reducing year over year. Let's make sure we give the new hires the actual facts.

Lines in EWR
Sept 2016 114 lines
Oct 2016 120 lines
Nov 2016 113 lines

sept 2017 87 lines
oct 2017 83 lines
Nov 2017 83 lines

sept 2018 70 lines
oct 2018 69 lines
Nov 2018 75 lines

sept 2019 63 lines
oct 2019 58 lines
Nov 2019 56 lines
