I would have rather carried paper charts if it meant getting new flying and or getting this contract done. No disrespect to those that worked hard on rolling out the EFBs (kudos) but EFBs aren't going to attract new hires. EVERYTHING depends on new hires. With the recent reduction of flying by Republic, if mainline were to come to us what assurance can we give to them that we could adequately staff when we barely get a fraction of new hires compared to our attrition? This right seat flying as captain for limited duration is just kicking the can down the road without solving the problem. MONEY talks and if SKW is serious about the success of ExpressJet's future, it's going to take an investment into our pilot group much like buying new planes for future fleet strategy.
I've also heard that Jeppesen wants to get out of the printing paper game, so we would be forced to go electronic anyways.

I'm not too sure SKW Inc. is too keen on XJT's future as seen by the pilot poaching posts cards they sent many of our pilots. But who knows. If we continue to financially turns things around like we did this past year maybe it will change. But I think right now we need to focus on getting a good TA that will attract pilots in. These other airlines are putting out new TAs and the longer we take to get one the worse it gets for us.

Are you saying that the TA would be harder to get if we made profits because ALPA would ask for too much and the company would say no?

It is a possibility. On the other hand, the company can say they can not give increases now because we are not profitable. Who the hell knows how they think.

That's why I think if we get more profitable then the company would be able to offer a better TA. But I wouldn't put it past the union to ask for even more, causing a stalemate.
Not specifically ALPA. I am in the crowd of one set of rules for both ERJ and CRJ. That was one of the problems I had with the last TA. The ERJ side has some good things that they don't want to let go of and the company wants to get rid of. Personally I just think if we become profitable, even though it might not be much, it will delay things. The day I came back from furlough the purchase was announced. We are a little over 5 years now....my expectations are pretty low.

Realy makes me wonder if Alex saw the true XJT plan, and decided weather it was in her career best intrest to stay... Or rental car company's just pay more... Either way i dont see much of a change in XJT the next 5 years...
