On another aspect of FedEx life, there are plenty of guys who, for whatever reason, won't/can't/don't upgrade to Captain. Would that mean that you'd feel "dirty" taking an early upgrade? Thought not.
Regardless, good luck in your quest.

There's two perspectives: the one where you have a great job, and the one where you don't.
If you're in the second category, don't take much advice from anyone in the first category.
If you're looking for a job, and there ain't a picket line in front of the place, go for it. Just read all the threads about the HKG situation. The company is going postal over guys not meeting the residency requirements over there. you can either a) not take the housing allowance and just make it work somehow, or b) go over there understanding that you AND your spouse cannot go home - I'd say not at all, until the company publicizes what criteria they are using to punish people.
You MIGHT could use the IRS criteria and keep your US trips to less than a month, but that has in no way been affirmed by the company or ALPA......

And let's also not forget the difference in 1st year probation pay to what nonprobation pilots earn. HKG is a beautiful city with lots to (incredibly poor air quality notwithstanding...), but it is also a fairly expensive city when assessed for housing. You can survive, I'm fairly sure, on probation pay, but it'll be at a somewhat lower relative level of comfort (how does 800-900 sq ft sound?).
A job is a job, however, so that is a consideration, but your survival instincts and ability to adapt would definitely be called into use.

Just curious about a couple things....first I see on APC's FedEx profile page 87 757-200s to be delivered by 2016. Are these refurbished aircraft? The 757 production line is closed down, right? Also, are the aircraft orders growth aircraft or replacements 1 for 1 with boneyard aircraft? Thanks

I guess my point was, playing that card of "hey I'll go if you'll hire me" if the current guys wouldn't because they're trying to fix a situation.

If said Class B bachelor happens to reside in one of the 20 states that ban discrimination in employment compensation and bennies based on marital status, said pilot has a cause of action against FDX if said pilot can't take the HA when identical new hires who don't have a marriage license can get this extra $4500/mo, plus 1000# shipment of household goods. Probably not advisable to mention this at the interview. Of course if you did, and that was the only reason FDX didn't hire you (challenging to prove), that in itself would be marital status discrimination. Which, by the way, is against the company's own policy, or so they'd like their shareholders to think.
