I mean…really? I don’t have a dog in this hunt, but I’m skeptical that the management of a however many billion dollar operation would knee-jerk close a base to “teach those pilots a lesson.”
I’ve never worked at a large company able to react to events that quickly. The base closure had to have been worked on for months.
This sounds like tinfoil hat wearing pilot versus management conspiracy theory.

I wish I were wrong, I really do. This story came around again through another source - a very senior guy who is plugged in to the goings on at this place. It happened like that. I'm not making it up or listening to crackpots. That's why junior captains like me are weighing their options and looking at possibly moving on. I used to think that in the interest of making money management wouldn't make stupid decisions, knowing what I know about this and other goings on it's clear I was wrong. This airline will figure things out one way or another and life will go on but the drama is so childish.

Were all the sick calls at ORD? We’re the majority of the sick calls from ORD? The pilots at ORD took the blunt force of the closure. Sure, it affects every pilot in some way. I just don’t think management is sticking it to a guy who lives in TPA or MCO. Anyways, I’m not sure your getting what I’m saying.

Hate to say this, and I’m not defending how everything went down, but hard to blame them?? What’s the point of having reserves in a base with no departures?

At one point, with less bases, it made a lot of sense. You could get a reserve from ORD on an airplane anywhere in the system in a matter of a few hours. Same (to a slightly less extent) with DEN. ORD covered needs East of the Mississippi and DEN covered stuff to the West. As we continued to open bases around the country, that versatility advantage that was maintained in ORD began to diminish. Eventually, having that many reserves sitting at a large, expensive airport no longer made as much sense. Now, in two more months, it will be part of the Frontier Airlines history book.

I don't blame them for that, I blame them for the last several years unable to really gain any foothold in the 3rd largest market where it's ****ing cold, when the keep talking about cold to hot destinations.
