Ive heard of that as well which is why im entertaining the idea of going to F9 SO SOON. Will probably get some crap for this but im a brand new regional FO that hasn't even consolidated on the Ejet yet. Passed the assessment and got an invite to interview. I was planning to stay at F9 but if I decide to move on, where is the quicker/better hiring opportunity? (semi-rhetorical question there). Plus if the hiring slows considerably id much rather be at frontier than a regional.
Im wondering if it was at all hours related...guys with more experience got CJOs/class dates while others needed a bit more experience to be competitive. Just a theory...

So I just had my Republic class date cancelled because they're too fat on FOs and I'm considering just getting my ATP on my own by getting an A320 type. I have all unrestricted ATP mins and written in hand, just need to check the box, so to speak. This may sounds entitled but I'm almost 40, and not in a position to "need" to do the "regional grind." I just want to fly and get into the 121 world and not have to get treated like garbage at the regionals. I have 1600 hours, over 1000 of which of is Turbine PIC, and 500 of which is PIC turbine ME. Sounds like I'm a little light on ME time and need to ATP ticket. Would getting ATP, an A320 type, but having no 121 time and slightly light on the ME time still be enough to get my foot in the door?

I don’t think you sound entitled at all wanted to get your ATP on your own. In my book that’s called determination? Not entitlement. But there are far cheaper and less risky ways to do it with your low time IMO.

Given you’re amount of turbine time I think you’d be just fine without the type rating. What is your current turbine time in? Military? I only ask because the 320 is a different learning curve for many people. While I think you’d probably get an interview even with being light on time, a busted type ride/ATP would sink you for awhile. Remember, a busted type ride when also being used for an initial ATP is a double bust. ATP AND type.

That's great insight, thank you. The turbine time is a combination of caravan and twin otter float planes and jump ships. Fully understood regarding the risk, that's part of my hesitation. I have a clean record and would like to keep it that way. The follow-up question then is how do I actually apply if I don't have the ATP ticket. Seems as though if I don't check yes to that my app will float in the ether. The ATP/type combo is inspired by the fact that an ATP ride in a light twin is actually not that much cheaper than the 320 type right now, hence the temptation to combine the two.
Should I instead just try to find the soonest I can knock out the ATP in a light twin and get that app to hit a recruiters desk?

I wouldn’t worry about ethics. It’s all about business and right now pilots are in high demand. Get what you can and don’t look back. You can be nice about it of course. Management didn’t care when they furloughed people or went into bankruptcy to wipe contracts and pensions out during the bad times. They Then payed themselves record bonuses. It’s just business they said when they pulled their golden parachutes.
