Touché, but most I fly with don't live in or around ORD either. Commuters already, and most likely willing to commute to NE if it meant better seniority, or an upgrade. I've just been trying to point out that probably close to 40% of our seniority list lives in the central or eastern time zone now. Maybe I'm way off, but I'd bet a beer that I'm not.
No idea what the actual number is, but I know it's not insignificant.

Dragging feet on contracts? Is that a joke? Do we have go there. Damn near every legacy in the country has done that. Seems it was Spirit that paid higher 320 rates than just about everyone in the US after their last deal.
Delta most recently comes to mind on dragging feet and oh yeah one of the most profitable carriers in the country, SWA. Never mind UPS stretching out negotiations for 7 years.
Save me the nonesense.

What do the ULCC's do well?
Beat down the employees with low wages, outsourcing, dragging their feet on contract talks and taking a "you can routinely **** off a once a year flyer without much long term repercussions, because there's more just like them to follow" attitude?
ULCC's offer two things to the public, low upfront fares (spiked with fees) and cherry pick leisure point-to-point routes that can fill up a 320 at least a few times a week.

Make a profit, by offering affordable fares to much of the flying public that wouldn't fly otherwise. It used to be called the Southwest effect, now it's called the Spirit effect. That's what they do well. Before ULCC's there were LCC's which have also done a great job making a profit.

The parent companies and management make money hand over fist. That's what they do well.
They also play the airline contract game. Meaning if the company has the upper hand and the pilots have a low paying crappy contract, it's the companies moral obligation to continue the management fat cat tradition of dragging out negotiations as long as they possibly can. Every day that the pilots continue under the old contract is a win for the fat cats. Under no circumstances will a fat cat willingly cut into his or her own profits by giving to the pilot group. Any acquiescence on the part of a fat cat will only be done under direct physical threat.
