Not all planes flying are airlines!

Probably would have gotten tagged to fly something anyway, but really? Thanks for taking care of troops first.
*shrug* It's not the military, there's no troops to take care of. I think he had more to gain than you had to lose. You were both gone for the same amount of days, the pay was probably about the same, but this way he doesn't have to go back but you didn't get easy days. Sure it stinks for you, but only a little. He better have bought beers at least.

Dont forget somewhere in the middle of that: Sherman is being a panzy or needs to get out of the game if his arm hurts that bad

What a TOOL! I bet the flight deck got very quiet for the rest of the trip and there's a new CA on your "no fly list."

You've received a lot of good info here on APC. Here's another tip....Your're right...It's not the military and you need to learn how to be a civilian. Spoonman got screwed and that Captain is a real *** ( I'll save the sensor and just type the *s) There were other ways for the CA to fill up without pimping over his FO. I can't believe you are taking up for him.

You are correct, I've gotten a lot of good info here. Over time I'll see what is the norm but from an outsider perspective I stand by my original statement. As I've learned seniority rules. I bid a YS to pick up a good trip while sitting reserve, I'm the most senior FO on reserve so the trip was probably going to be mine. A line holder saw the trip and dumped a bunch of crappy 1 days in the pot and took the good trip. Now I'll be eating the 0-dark hundred reports and not even getting the reach around of a night out of the crash pad. I didn't look at it as I'd been wronged, it's just the way it is. I don't see how the 2 situations are different. Maybe after a couple years in the industry I will.

Yes seniority rules, but screwing over the guy you're flying with when offered a rare good deal is not cool. Especially when there are numerous ways to fill up without screwing your buddy. OK...fair enough. I tried. Just trying to help you transition form outsider to insider. Carry on.

Interesting reply. You're completely wrong, but interesting. Easy, no-tool/ good leadership decision would be to cut loose on the third day, yellow slip for one more day and let your FO get a good deal. As for easing me into the "civilian world", after retiring from the NAV and spending 8 years with the company, I think a) leadership matters and if it doesn't to you than maybe you're part of the problem. Whether you dump lavs, dig ditches, or command a crew it matters. And b) according to my FOM, yes there are "troops" to take care of. But thanks for your $.02

General etiquette is to drop/pick up whatever suits you, and not worry too much about the reserves. Reserve is reserve. I hate it when reserves whine that they had to drive in because somebody dropped the last turn (probably to catch a flight home in time to see their kids before bedtime). On average, most of us did our time in the hole before we got a line. It's asking too much to worry about a hypothetical reserve (who might want to go fly anyway) before you adjust your schedule.

But once on a trip, I would never screw over my crew by "volunteering" them to do something they didn't want to. But you can always have the discussion and reach a group consensus (I have).

Buying beers doesn"t fix the fact that the captain pulled a johnson move. I sure as hell would have told him too.

As others have said, reserve is reserve. That's just the way it is. Once on a trip, there is an implied obligation to make it an easy trip for each other. Don't be "that" guy.

And I certainly hope that it doesn't take a couple of years for you. As the Gunny said to me in another life, "Sir, you are new here. I know you got lots of ideas on how to do things, and all that %^$# they taught you in OCS, but just keep your mouth shut, and your eyes and ears open. Before you know it, you'll know it."

From your postings, you seem to be a squared away guy. When I finally decide between M88 and 717 captain, I look forward to flying with you. (You're on the 717, right?)
