There are a number of grievances the Horizon pilot group is facing with management. There is also a growing divide within our pilot group on how to proceed. Our CBA defines premium pay as 150%, but management has started paying 200% for every trip in open time. Our EXCO, under the guidance of IBT legal, has requested that no pilot fly premium pay trips at 200%, which essentially means don't fly any open time or premium pay trips. Their goal is to pressure the company to honor prior commitments on which they have reneged (our last Letter of Agreement) as well as getting a higher premium pay rate locked into the CBA, which now, it is not. There is a large group of pilots here who openly do not support their EXCO. They want no restrictions on picking up open time, even if it means losing our upper hand with management. Obviously, this is creating a lot of friction and division within the pilot group. Time will tell if the number of 'I will not fly 200%' pilots, can counter those that want to be free to fly 200%.

40 QX flights cancelled today due to lack of pilots. Affecting 2,552 passengers. Per the Alaska Airlines Operational Status board for fact checkers. Other than a SWAP event for a winter storm, this is a pretty high number of cancellations.
So if we're cancelling flights due to lack of pilots, what pray tell is it going to take to right this ship? Seems like this problem has just popped up out of the blue, never saw it coming, and there's nothing QX and Alaska management ever did to cause this (even though they make all the decisions and control freak everything).
I want to personally thank CEO Dave Campbell's leadership (insert: incompetence) over the last three years for handling the situation.

I have an idea: Maybe they could stop violating our contract left and right every day, stop trying to intimidate and harass our pilot group, recognize they have made serious mistakes regarding the 'commit to compete' campaign and offer an industry leading contract that will make people actually WANT to fly a Q400.
But what do I know.

So they re canceling flight due to lack of pilots and they just raised the requirements to apply from 60 hours in the last 6 months "preferred" to 60 hours in the last 6 months "required". This happened in the last week and is an issue for me since I have been out of the cockpit for about 10 years. Canceling flights due to lack of pilots and make it more difficult to apply, interesting. QX was one of two options since I live in Boise and am not willing to commute for an airline job. Next

You really think that 60 hours in the last 6 months flying a C-150 in uncontrolled airspace, from an uncontrolled airport, or flying a student around at an uncontrolled airport, all completed day VFR, will give me better chance of flying a Q-400 in 121 operations?
