Reserve and upgrade
Hi guys, just curious as to what current reserve time might be for 175 new hires, as well as a foreseeable upgrade time in the 175. I know these times are subject to change at a moments notice. Thanks

Y'all, I'm a newbie in the E175 just starting training - hopefully there will still be a jet or two to fly.
I'm hoping someone out there has answers to the E175 Test bank questions (about 600 or so). Would really appreciate a PM from someone willing to help me and future new hires.
Cheers.

It's a little hard to do any prognostication regarding reserve time and upgrade time for the jet, for a couple of reasons:
(1) We don't know how many jets we're getting (10? 15? 30?).
(2) There's A LOT of training going on in the jet. It's not unusual for line holders to have trips changed or stolen by the training department. You will be pay guaranteed. Things should settle down in a few months.
Since you asked for a guess, I'd figure 6-9 months on reserve. It's harder to estimate an upgrade time, as there are MANY senior guys who haven't yet bid the jet. It could be as low as two years (1000 hours Part 121 time) or as high as 6-8 years if there's a mass stampede for the jet by the senior guys. Just as a data point... When Horizon operated the CRJ700, the junior captain line holder in Portland had 21 years with the company. Those guys are still around.
If the senior guys start bidding the jet, there is a possibility that you'll either upgrade in the Dash, or have a very long sit in the right seat of the Embraer.
Good luck!

It all comes down to quality of life. Nothing more, nothing less. You'll get to your major airline of choice just as fast as everyone else. Flight time is flight time but commutes suck, no matter how you rationalize it. Looks like the new management team is coming into focus. If these guys can't get QX back on track, it's going to be an epic implosion...
here's an uneducated prediction for QX in 2018...see how close I get
Serious money is thrown at attracting pilots...making it rain dollas
13 Q 400s are parked
All deliveries are taken of E175
GEG, MFR, and BOI bases are closed
Route structure changes, enhansed by more E175 flying
AS/QX/VX merger announced late 2018...

SkyWest, Inc. today reported that it has entered into aircraft purchase agreements and capacity purchase agreements to acquire and fly 15 additional new aircraft with Delta Air Lines (“Delta”) and five additional new aircraft with Alaska Airlines (“Alaska”). Expected delivery dates for the 20 aircraft run from September 2017 through the end of 2018. These aircraft will be operated by SkyWest Airlines, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of SkyWest. Of the 20 aircraft, 15 Embraer E175 SC aircraft will fly under an agreement with Delta in a 70-seat configuration. The E175 SC aircraft has an E175 airframe and can be retrofitted to 76 seats in the future. The agreement with Alaska includes five Embraer E175s, with a 76-seat configuration, similar to aircraft SkyWest has previously placed into service with Alaska.
Combined with last month’s announcement for 25 new aircraft, today’s announcement results in a cumulative order of 45 new aircraft. Similar structurally to SkyWest’s acquisition of 104 E175s, SkyWest expects to invest approximately $161 million in cash to acquire these 45 aircraft, and to finance the balance of the purchase price with debt. The expected delivery dates for the 45 aircraft run from September 2017 through the end of 2018, with the majority of the deliveries scheduled for mid-2018.

Horizon will never merge with Alaska, but I'm starting to think that a flow-through is increasingly likely. Air Group management has now replaced our VP of Flight Operations, Chief Pilot, and Director of Flight Training with Alaska personnel. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this. I never cared much for our home-grown Horizon managers, but the new team needs to tread carefully to avoid alienating the senior Horizon employees (and not just the pilots).
In general, I dislike flow-though deals. They're just another system to keep regional pilots working for poverty wages.
The latest message from management also indicated that they were going to spend the next few months ramping up the training department, and expected any further growth to start in late 2018 (!). Looks like another busy holiday season for those of us on reserve.
