What's happening at Horizon and Jets?

part deals with "other than small aircraft". So that would be above the E175

What a dumpster fire. If they were serious about attracting pilots and turning it around they'd at least be paying lip service to creating the appearance of stability. Why would anyone with options even consider going there?

So, I've been watching these forums for a good while, and never posted before. I have an interview with QX upcoming, and I want to think that there must be some positive coming. But I don't see that here, or really anywhere. But this industry tends to go in big swings pretty frequently, so is there any hope that Horizon is at the low point and getting ready for a swing back up?

I can't predict they future, but management has taken steps indicative of wanting to see us succeed. Right now our new VP flight ops is on record saying he expects a healthy airline by February. What that entails, he didn't specify, but I suspect we will see the retirement of Qs and consolidation of routes such that we are able to realistically able to staff AS feed as well as resume hiring / delivery of our E175.
Time will tell, but I still believe we will be fine. Contrary to my previous posts not recommending QX, I must admit that with the departure of the old VP flight ops, things are objectively better.

Yes. We've recently replaced several top managers, all formerly Alaska air group, some are Alpa seniority pilots. Kind of tips their hand that they are serious about getting the wings level here.

It all comes down to quality of life. Does QX have bases where you want to live? How do QX work rules and compensation compare with other companies? How does union v. non-union environment workout? Ask a OO pilot how many hours they flew this summer, my guess is that their Average Line Value varied...
QX is at a low point only because manpower was seriously mismanaged over the last year to two years. Comparing companies, QX has some of the best work rules and compensation around. The company is expanding, a good problem to have at a company. Manpower issues could happen at any company and companies could be canceling flights, just not getting into the news quite like QX. Just wait to see what will happen at Spirit, Frontier, Atlas, ABX, and ATI to see what will happen there. They all have strike authorizations. Basically, QX will recover the manpower, or it will be a spectacular ending.
Bottom line, if the quality of life and the basing works for you, it might not be a bad fit. If not, find a company that is a good fit. The worst thing you could do is go to a company because you think it will get you somewhere faster all the while you are miserable at work. It's an awesome career, enjoy the ride! Good luck, either way!

No problem. A clarification of my predictions above: I believe they will retire SOME Qs, not all.
I echo flynshoe's advice above about basing. Live in base = higher QOL. Very high correlation to happiness. I think it's a correlation of .99

I've been here through the nastiest winter I've ever flown in and while on reserve, flew my butt off and I won't lie, there were days where I was questioning my choice in coming here even though I was excited as can be to be offered a job at Horizon Air. At the end of the day I realized something, compared to what pay used to be I actually make pretty nice money as an FO now with the new pay scales and I can afford to live in base in a nice place, have my nice things, pay my bills and go pick up some premium on my days off occasionally to spice the pay check up even more. That year two FO pay is really nice especially on premium pay but it sure could be better now with endeavor scales on the web.
That being said I actually enjoy flying here now that I look back at my experience so far even through the worst storm and staffing issues we've had, I get to come to work and fly with the coolest employees around and better myself with the flying and challenges of flying in the PAC NW no matter what time of the year it is. I've learned so much here in the past two years and I do think we will recover in the right way, I do believe what these other guys are saying regarding how the company is taking action now compared to what has been said previous, Alaska is finally stepping in to help right this ship and I've got my bets we will recover and turn into an all Ejet fleet flying allover before you know it. This past year I would have had a hard time recommending anyone to fly here regardless of what I said because I wasn't sure of our outcome but I think with all that's happening now, I would start recommending people. I can't lie either, ever since I got off reserve (3 months) my schedules and QOL have actually been really nice compared to what I was doing on reserve. I'm looking forward to upgrading and watching this great airline come back together and maybe kicking SkyWest out of the NW or altogether hahaha no hate take care y'all
