Back then it was a very big deal for TWA pilots. About 10 years difference in seniority relative to the AA pilots. Plenty of senior CA got pushed to the right seat to fly with a newbie AA CA. The bottom big group of FO got furloughed.
The FA had it worse. Full staple job. Then every one got furloughed. 35 year TWA FA got furloughed. 7 month AA FA was not.

Considering the time it all took to integrate and in the post 9/11 environment and how many AA furloughed/downgraded/displaced, what exactly defines a "newbie AA CA"?

Bill Ackman ( activist investor) has been in the news of late, especially after the Harvard president shakeup. He was on Lex Fridman's podcast, a long format interview typically over 2 hours. Listening to that I had a slightly better idea of what it is he or an Icahn want and work to achieve it. He specifically mentions Icahn. But at one point he says just getting on the board is the key. From there you try to lead. There are 13 seats, he has 2, he only needs to convince 5 people of his vision to run the show.

From the outside it doesn't look like a bad spot to be in. 👍🏻

They may shrink you guys into a well run airline, maybe even sell you, but I doubt they're interested in parting our your assets. Either way enjoying the ride is really your only choice unless you're willing to leave.

What’s alarming now is that UA is closing in on a deal with Airbus to pick up production slots which is stated by outlets, “those abandoned by JetBlue and Spirit.” What kind of negotiations did our CFO do that they have been keeping to their chest until May, other than deferrals. With UA wanting to expand rapidly into FL and their UA next program. I see that as a viable threat and if true we gave up slots to help expedite their growth plans.

That was our best shot at creating a fortress hub outside of the NK merger.
