I've said it before, but complaining about the guys that do RSA/VDA and trying to make the argument that RSA/VDA causes low staffing/high bid divisors/red grids is a fools errand. The guys doing most of the RSA/VDA do NOT WANT staffing fixed. Period.

As long as it's not a labor dispute, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. The "oldest profession" right?

VDAs don't cause low staffing. Low staffing (due to a lack of grasping which is cheaper) drives VDAs. And either way, it's not within the pilot group's ability to prevent VDAs, only pick them up or ignore them.

It’s cheaper till nobody does it and the schedule falls apart.

Look I don’t care what people do. What I do know is if they are addicted to this way of pay when we hit a labor dispute again( we will) it’s going to be hard for them to stop. That to me would be the problem.

VDA today is filling in the blanks of the company’s TRO during tomorrow’s “labor dispute”.

True. I couldn’t care less if people are picking up flying when not in negotiations but it should be known that their historical habits are collected by the company which could be a threat to the success of the next NC. I’ve seen the extent of the data NWA collected in the 90’s so I can’t even imagine the level of data they have now with leaps in technology.

There is no them. It’s us.

The more we pick up the brighter the line becomes when we stop or slow down.

Personally. I view a TRO as an investment in our future and would be more than happy to read the cease and desist letter from ALPA written by a federal judge.

It's very simple. A bit of integrity and loyalty to peers is all that is required. If peeps don't have it, then they need to be publicly outed. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir, just as I'm sure there exists a group of pilots who are willing to cross a picket line or pick up extra flying during a labor dispute. Sad.
