February 1/15 Interviews

Hypothetical question:
Vacation bids are in October. If a new contract were ratified after that, but before the start of 2018, would we go through 2018 with the old vacation rules or would there be a new vacation bid?
I'm guessing that would be ironed out in negotiations, but that could buy the company some buffer time to adjust to new staffing requirements as we live under the old rules.

[QUOTE=Pilot417;2332838]Are you given a choice of classes or are they asking you to take the first available?
It is my understanding that they will work with you. Had a friend who pushed to a later class.

To actually answer that question, most CBA's that involve significant rule or process changes have a negotiated implementation date. This could be all encompassing on a single cutover or phased for certain items. My expectation for something as massive of a change as our first CBA would be that rates, accruals, etc. would come into play on the effective date. Work rules would be implemented on a mutually agreeable schedule, and finally items like vacation would need a rational cutover point to prevent chaos and allow awards under a new system.

They will let you "sit out" one class offering. After that, no more. As it was explained to me during the interview debrief.
That said, they also told me they understand the industry and will make sure you're able to provide at least a two weeks notice. Now, have people been able to say "No, I'll take the earliest..." I don't know, you could try when offered.
As an update...a couple people from the 2/15 interview session were told they made it out of phase 2 and then into the pool today.
