The extra days are great and Im glad it isn't contentious yet, I just look at motivation and so far I do not believe they have any. Do you?
They will in about 6-12 months though- If they want to grow, they wont have the staffing to do it.
Here's a question- when a CBA is reached, and reserve becomes more like a real airline, how will they miraculously switch from the way they abuse reserves now to a more humane system overnight? They cant get more than 300/yr through MCO and who knows how many we lose by the end of the year.
Also, are they going to let us bid below 70? More staffing issues...
thoughts?

That is a very good question.
We know we will have better vacation trip and work rules, otherwise why vote yes. This will lead to them needing way more pilots along with a bunch of planes coming. I also wonder how LSC will be able to deal with it.

I did hear that theyre adding 2 sims- I just worry theyll react after the problem exists instead of biting the bullet and being a little overstaffed to handle any new work rules with a CBA.

You misunderstand. When they removed the trigger they said they would make open time premium on an as-needed basis. They did it once during an irop shortly after they stole the trigger. Haven't done it since. It was used similar to how Delta uses green slips. Once. Haven't done it since as far as I know.
The point I'm trying to make, is that there is a ridiculous amount of slack built into reserve coverage. JFK 320 FO has had 20-30 reserves going unused nearly every day this month. I remember looking at the grid on Thanksgiving having over 40 unused reserves that day. There's definitely a better way to staff the operation.
A worthwhile CBA will definitely require increased staffing. Management will need to adjust to that reality. My unscientific analysis gives me the feeling there's some room to cover the need with our current staffing levels.
That being said, I share Bozo's concern that management needs to be concerned with staffing. Getting ahead of the curve would be smart. We'll have to wait and see how they prepare, if they do at all.
Agreed. It's not like they can increase the bid divisors by much more each month.

Vacation bids are in October. If a new contract were ratified after that, but before the start of 2018, would we go through 2018 with the old vacation rules or would there be a new vacation bid?
I'm guessing that would be ironed out in negotiations, but that could buy the company some buffer time to adjust to new staffing requirements as we live under the old rules.

Hypothetical question:

This is why the company loves PTOSB.

Great discussion. Very insightful and helps us potentials understand the situation.
Anyone else from any interview group (including those from Jan) see any recent movement? I know some who have interviewed are taking offers from other companies because of the lengthy process. I, however, am not that fortunate yet.
