exact same thing happened to a friend of mine. His grandparents are from Mexico. He is as white as me who's grandparents are from Norway and Sweden. He never thought to check Hispanic because he considers himself American as do I.
he finally checks the box nothing else changes and is now flying boxes around the world in a 747.
Ask what brown can do for you.

I used to work in a major state university in the admissions office and that is exactly how it worked despite the official line was that “the box” was only used for statistical tracking, when in fact the dirty little secret was that box was used to lower the acceptable GPA and SAT scores for members of certain races. So there you go.

There is data which shows the People/Things predisposition of Women/Men which suggests a biological influence. I don't know of any similar data on whites vs. blacks.
My anecdotal observations are that poverty likely plays a role as blacks in the US are disproportionally poor which has a significant affect on the ability to pursue flight training. I also see a strong predisposition towards sports and athletics where blacks are disproportionally successful. Same with music. Blacks are dominating many areas of the music industry. I don't think any of those predispositions have anything to do with biology, as the People/Things predispositions do. I think they're more likely the result of culture; but, I've seen no data on this. It would be interesting to see. If this disparity is culturally based, recruitment and outreach efforts could be quite successful. I am less optimistic about such efforts addressed at the male/female pilot ratio.

my gues is getting the call a week later and during the interview they asked about his Hispanic heritage. Probably because he is as white as those interviewing him.

The WNBA and women’s national soccer team have been pushing for “equal pay” for years.

That’s totally reasonable at the point where interest in the sport and viewership is the same as the male counterparts. Viewership leads to advertising, which is where all the money comes from.
