I thought it didn’t matter anymore since there is no difference between male and female?

Anyway, it has been shown that reducing entry requirements for specific groups proved counterproductive at Harvard for example. You can’t reduce the course content or pressure or brain power needed to complete the course of education, thus many of those people that get in the door have a constant struggle to keep up.

Just because you lower the entry level standards doesn’t mean the level of competency will be just as high. And competency in an airplane is directly proportional to the level of safety.

Are the Navy SEALs going to lower standards? I doubt it.

Aviation is very specific. It’s a lifestyle that doesn’t work for many many people. If you just want the money but hate the job, why do it?

By all means, encourage everyone to explore aviation.

I remember some guy saying we should judge people based on their character or something instead of skin color but we've gotten so brave and stunning we decided immutable traits are the best way to judge someone. Yay for progress!

There are thousands of women flight attendants. Explain to me why there isn't a shortage there, if the issue is being away from home, the demands of travel etc.

It's easy to get into, easy to leave, and for most female flight attendants I know, it is temporary. Do it for a few years, have fun, travel and use the benefits, and do something else. Or they're older and their kids have moved away. Do some women make a career of it? Yes. As do some women as pilots.

The fact that this uniformity occurs on a political/philosophical level allows for diversity on a physical level. But diversity of races, religions, ethnicities, etc means nothing if the values of said people dont mesh on a foundational level.
whether it’s internal or external or both these passions are definitely being stoked to have us constantly at each other’s throats.

This was my main point...... I have little doubt our strife is being fueled by external sources and our “diversity” is what is enabling them to cause our national self immolation.

Narrowing the barrier to entry gap some communities face to get into this profession is not a bad thing.
So people who don’t fall into one of the preferred categories shouldn’t get the same opportunity as the ones who do? United has made clear that this will be their preferred method of hiring into the future, and they start by discriminating right off the bat. American is starting a flight school too, right? Sure they’ll be next, in addition to Commie Ed.

Interesting opinions. I figure most of the post are from white male pilots.

haven’t seen many welcoming or supportive responses to the diversity agenda.
I guess they will not replace us applies 🤣

Women are more interested in people and relationships; less interested in things.
Men are more interested in things; less interested in people and relationships.

If you give people the freedom of choice, women will disproportionately choose careers and activities that involve dealing with people and forming relationships. Men will disproportionately choose things.

Women are taking over in healthcare. They've always been the vast majority of nurses and techs but now they are the majority in everything including Nurse Practitioners and Doctors.

Women who want to travel see the mostly non-technical flight attendant job as more attractive because it deals with people and relationships. Men are more often attracted to the technical aspects of piloting or being an aviation mechanic.

I don't understand why this simple truth is such a problem for some people.

So this begs the question was United up until this change racist and sexist in their hiring practices previously OR were they hiring the best qualified candidate for the position? It’s one or the other!

Instead of concentrating on equality of outcome let’s expand equality of opportunity, cast a wide net on the candidate pipelines, but when it comes to the hiring boards, and in the sim gender and race should not be considered, it should be sink or swim.
