Sell me the bridge then. I have a close friend, (who is white), who dove into OBAP programs because he enjoyed them. He will tell anyone who will listen how much he credits the organization with helping him get his mainline job. You get what you put in to these types of organizations. If it's as simple as "checking a box" then why are there so many black regional captains who show up at OBAP year after year but still aren't at mainline? Do they all have DUIs and multiple checkride failures?
The reason the organizations are needed in the first place is very nuanced and I doubt you care. But the fact is, the United app asks if you are a member of professional partner organzations like OBAP/WIA. It doesn't say "don't select this if you're a white male, though."
Absolute, utter, bull. Who shunned him? Did the president of OBAP walk past all the other various White, Black, Middle Eastern, Hispanic, Asian, and other participants to your "person" and ask him to leave?
Or was he "shunned" because he didn't walk out with a mainline job... Because, you know, all you have to do is show up the and be brown and you'll walk out with a job, right?
Were you there with him to validate his story? This is a pretty big claim you've made, towards an organization that strives for inclusion of ALL races.
If you've ever been to any of these events (doubtful), you'd see that there is no one at the door checking and shunning... But keep telling that story though!

Why did a white guy join OBAP? If OBAP is a black pilots association and the airlines are tripping over themselves to get black pilot why do you need an organization that put others ahead of those who aren't members? Is there a secret handshake with the airline recruiters to get people get hired?
Would OBAP be the epitome of black privilege? When all the airlines will interview any minority candidates with less time and experience than the white candidates. Adding another organization to promote their skin pigment just seems elitist and redundant.

Well, I see it this way...
What happened on January 6, 2021was a result of
The well PRIVILEGED, and ENTITLED, expectation fading away. It has never been about race and gender. It has always about wealth and power. Those who have it, will do everything they can to keep it. ALL OF IT....

I now understand why we get to watch diversity videos from HR.
This program is little more than a goal, similar to a goal to buy American made aircraft, you know, unless a better deal rolls around. We hardly ever believe those goals stated from management.
Hiring boards give zero weight to any of the heart burn discussed here.
The key take away should be, to the young women and people of color, is that being a United pilot is a real life possibility. We all benefited, at some point in our life, from someone affirming a dream that you can actually achieve it. This program is a way of providing affirmation to those not lucky enough to to find that person yet. We work in a wonderful industry that has uniform work rules regardless of the name on a pay check.
How we talk about what is possible does change perspectives, especially in young people. Why is blue or black manly? It’s literally just a color.

Are you saying that every woman and minority is less fortunate that their white compatriots? So, Obamas daughters should get to go ahead of a white guy living in the trailer park washing dishes to pay for his flight training? There are just so many racist assumptions made in this statement. Next your going to tell us that if we don't let in all the people South of the boarder that no one will clean our toilets' because that is all they do right?

Jesus Christ did we all go to college or what?

If only that were true. My cousin did recruitment for a few years for new engineers for their Fortune 50 company. At every university him and a few other engineers would interview the best that university had. They were only allowed to hire X amount and at the end of the day the HR department would march in 5-10 minority candidates, who didn't fall into the 'best' category, and they were told to hire X amount regardless of qualifications. I hope that doesn't become too prevalent in aviation.
One of my favorite aspects of my career is that everyone is treated the exact same on a seniority list regardless of how we arrived to that number. I appreciate that every pilot I fly with can assume I know the role I am operating on that flight, from fresh off OE to knows every frequency from departure to landing.

An organization that calls itself the BLACK PILOTS ASSOCIATION does not strive for the inclusion of all races. IT IS RIGHT THERE IN THEIR NAME if you can't see that then I won't even sell you the bridge as you don't seem to understand basic grammar and would probably end up naming it "coloreds only bridge" then have to explain that you are just joking and the bridge is striving to include all people regardless of color.

Please explain to me how OBAP and Women in Aviation conferences are still chock full of people with years of experience, PIC time, and clean records, who still haven't filled more than a couple of slots in most major classes. The facts just don't support your anger. But, you'll never see it.
The rest of your rant... Just... Wow. Best of luck to you. People who think like you are the reason these organizations are still needed.

MOD INPUT: Do not call people here racist, and do not call entire demographics racist (ANY demographic). That in and of itself is racist and very inflammatory. If we're going to discuss this sensitive topic on APC we need to keep it civil and measured.
If you observe actual racism from an individual here, report it and the mods will deal with it.
Thanks

I was a hiring manager for a Fortune 500 telecommunications company and it did happen there. To the point I would be half way through the list before I had someone who was somewhat qualified because demographics scored people hire than they deserved.
