As far as your first question...absolutely, your specific friend may value family over career. But looking at women as a whole, are you saying there is something biological that makes them not want to be pilots?

And yes, certainly society dictates things to some extent. % of women in the workforce went from 34% in 1950 to 50% by 1977. Did women suddenly have desires and passions they'd never had before or did society's expectations change, making them more comfortable pursuing those desires?

Diversity isn’t our greatest strength as a nation, uniformity is. Or at least it was. Uniformity of people who value the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Uniformity in the recognition of a limited government restrained by the consent of the governed, whose citizens are neither owned nor owed.

The fact that this uniformity occurs on a political/philosophical level allows for diversity on a physical level. But diversity of races, religions, ethnicities, etc means nothing if the values of said people dont mesh on a foundational level.

It's all semantics.

China is a homogenous country 5x the size of the USA. While we're arguing about bathrooms, girls sports and recruiting policy, they will be pushing our ******* in on a global scale.

I "had" a black female guidance counselor at a DOD school who was useless if you were white. If you were black she'd do anything for you but the white students were, literally, turned away at her office.

Just think a moment about where we are today vs 1963 when this video was made. My how times have changed! (Pretty funny reaction especially by the flight attendant if you ask me!)

I can’t believe this s..t is happening at UAL again. It infuriates me more than I can put into words. The traveling public is stupid enough to let them get away with it, too. What they should do is boycott the airline as they’re trying to fit a certain amount of round pegs into square holes within a given time period.

It’s a highly safety sensitive job. Incompetence can lead to hundreds of fatalities. I guess we still don’t care enough to learn our lessons from past accidents. Being “woke” and “racially sensitive” are more important.

Atlas Air crash in Texas......nothing more needs to be said.

Agree...Atlas Air crash in Texas is exactly why a program like this is so important. Atlas hired a pilot who had no business flying a 767 because the demand for qualified pilots outstripped the pool. Just looking at the numbers...there are tons of women and minorities who would be outstanding pilots and expand the pool if the barriers for entry weren't so high. United isn't saying 50% of our pilots will be women and minorities in 10 years, they're saying the goal is to have 50% of the people who enter this program be women and minorities.

Fixed it for you.

BTW, why create a burner profile instead of posting in your regular profile? All four of your posts are in this (and the United specific) United diversity threads. Sure it's possible this is your first and only account, but doubtful.

Some people are showing their true colors over this. Qualified? Give me a break. 1000 hours of turbine and an ATP makes you United qualified.

Women and minorities they hire will still have to go through all the certifications and take the same check rides, and will be held to the same standards. They won't be hiring someone who is less qualified.
