This economy is slow rolling into a deep recesssion. The slower we enter, the slower we exit. The economy is being proped up by deficit spending and goverment spending. All the signs have been there. Fed EX CEO last year said, the economy was slowing. Many experts like Jamie Dimon and others have been saying the same thing for over year as well, but everyone said these guy were smoking crack because they supported Trump policies. Now we have a Airline furloughing, how soon before others follow suite if they cannot get their cost under control? And then there are all these new contracts, how long before the Airlines come back and ask for concessions to keep from laying off? Remember never let a good crisis go to waste. The rest of this year and first quarter of next year is going to be very interesting.

As the conference committee meets, the pilot shortage is not even a topic of conversation, it's all about ICAO and how to structure the age extension with the least disruption to the airlines. Most likely outcome, age gets extended to 67 immediately, international flying will remain 65 until ICAO ups the age or possibly bilaterals are in effect. From what I'm hearing, ALPA is trying to find a way to spin this as a huge win. From my understanding, both UA and AA have a robust domestic widebody flying schedule so this might only be slightly disruptive, not sure about DL. Of course at SW it would have literally no effect on operations.

Wealthy people aren't likely getting actual or unrestricted ATPs which is the metric ALPA is using

IF this goes down as you suggest, there wouldn't be a large number of over 65 pilots before ICAO changed the age.
However, the threat by GOP Senators to grind things to a halt if the Mayorkas impeachment is tabled is growing. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/gop...eachment-trial
Should the impeachment get tabled, I can't see a path for any legislation to move forward.

Lemme guess. The lobby group and lawyers grifting you guys and asking for "donations" are also the ones telling you it's a done deal... if you just send a few more clams. Lol.

I'd like to hear what your TX source has to say about the Mayorkas impeachment/possible tabling.
Here's an article that sums up the GOP's leverage (it's all about the 2024 elections): https://www.politico.com/news/2024/0...trial-00151371
This could be a non-issue tomorrow if Mayorkas simply resigns and I don't rule that out as a possibility, as it would eliminate the need for Sens Tester, Brown, Rosen and a few others to go on record on the subject. As of now, it looks like Mayorkas will remain in office with no indication of submitting his resignation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77zUN4QWVJ0
Thank goodness Mayorkas is keeping the border secure.

Its important to let you and tools to have this moment. Just in case it doesn’t happen for you. This hope that you need is very important to your well being. The amount of time spent thinking about it, the dollars you’ve calculated. Paramount. The dancing you’ll do over furloughed and job seeking pilots will all be worth it if passed. You won’t be able to say it was going to happen anyways. After all, those comms with your reps weren’t trying to insist on its passing after all.
