IATA Calls for Raising Pilot Age Limit to 67

It's like the Ring of Doom. No one can be trusted to make a rational decision when they're holding it. You have to commit to the outcome before the moment of truth arrives.

Just an observation - 67 proponents often cite Canada, Australia, and Japan as a reason for going past 65, neverminding that their average longevity is 4, 5, and 6 years longer, respectively, than in America. Yep, we die young because we are less healthy. Fix that first, then maybe we can talk about flying longer.

No one will leave because they're now required to stay to the legal limit to make up for the seniority you'd like to steal from your peers. That's what we somehow can't hammer through your skulls. You are actively seeking to reduce my anticipated compensation from now until 65 to extend it farther. I won't arrive at 65 in the same place if the mandatory retirement age is later.

The thing you can't seem to grasp is that 67 is going to happen. You just don't want it to happen for anyone senior to you. And somehow, when it does, you will justify that you deserve it and you're not like the greedy geezers you continue to moan about. Until then, you'll continue whining like a spayed puppy while people senior to you effectively advocate for getting something for you that you don't yet realize you really want.
For the record, It ain't going to happen in my career. I'm not "stealing" anything from anyone and I'm not holding any ring. You're going to be just fine. I promise. And I'm definitely taking the over on you.

If it happens soon, I will have to work past 65 in order to make up for lost earning opportunity.
If it happens much later, I will work one trip past 65. Just out of spite for all of those currently pushing for the age increase. I would do the one thing they wish they could’ve.
Just one trip because I don’t want to hurt those junior to me and will gladly step aside.

Please take 5 minutes to google investment growth over time and how saving less over decades impacts said growth. That’s the reason none of us want it, but will probably work past 65. It’s not difficult to understand. I know you can grasp it if you take a few minutes.
I bet it was a hard pill to swallow realizing you had been strung along by LEPF/EPAS.

I'd probably stay, its too hard to give up a well paying part time job as well as the delayed seniority benefits that would have accrued sooner. That's my point. Stop moving the goal posts and retire with grace. That's also why I said if its going to happen I hope its the month before I retire or sometime after. It's either of maximum benefit to me or doesn't hurt me at all. Also, as I stated, I hope it doesn't happen. Play the game as the rules have been laid out, don't advocate for changing them when its most advantageous for you (aka when your the most senior and benefit the most).

I am sure it will eventually happen. To be clear, I hope it never happens. I will probably work past for the reasons mentioned above.

I feel sorry for you, considering how late you are in this career, how many years you have had to prepare, and how much dread you are feeling about retirement. I promise, you'll be ok, probably.
